I think it can be helpful to pack for the day of by going through your time line and thinking of what you may need at each point in the day. So you start with the morning, do you need a shower cap for the shower, a travel toothbrush, and an extra razor for showering in the morning? Bug spray and sunscreen for outdoor photos? It's a good way to make your emergency kit and your general packing list.
