Emcee

Hi! My fiancé and I are getting married this May and my sister is our planner (has a degree in event planning). Our thoughts were to just create a playlist of music and not hire a DJ or emcee. However, that would mean someone at the wedding would have to be “working” off and on to make announcements and ensure the music is correct. Any advice on where to find a cheap emcee/Host to just supervise the music and make a few announcements?

Has your sister ever planned a wedding before or did she just recently get her degree? A good planner knows the advantages of a DJ, such as keeping the flow of the event moving, timing, reading the room, etc. Hire a DJ unless you're having a small restaurant reception.

My daughter & her fiance hired a DJ that will also work the social hour (cocktail hour) and has activities of some sort to make it fun. DJs do more than push the buttons to play the music. They will respond to how the crowd is behaving, and adjust accordingly to make the party more fun!

She got her degree years ago. She knows what she is doing. We are on a budget and want a casual, simple wedding and the quotes I have been getting are around $1000. All we need is someone to stand by the music and make sure it plays and then announce for the tables to get their food, announce our return from taking pictures, first dance, etc.

I'm a wedding musician, and a solo MC is not really a thing. MCs are either DJs themselves and do both at weddings, or work for a DJ company and regularly partner with a DJ from the same company to do weddings together. I highly doubt you'll find a professional to do this. If you asked our MC to just MC, we'd decline, as it's not worth the money without DJ services as well. It's so much more involved than what you think.

Yeah I would echo that I don't think you are going to find a professional to do this. I would see if any of your local bars know someone that is just starting out DJing that you could pay hourly but a professional is not going to agree to watch your ipod without using their own equipment, etc. It would tarnish their brand.
