Email template - Postponed due to Covid-19

Patricia, on March 22, 2020 at 12:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 3

We went ahead and postponed our May 16 wedding.

For those of you looking for a template, I am sharing the email I sent to friends and family yesterday. Please use it to help get you started! I know it took me so much energy to write this, so I thought why not help someone else get started

Dearest Family and Friends,

It is with two heavy hearts that we send you this message. After much discussion, we find it is best to postpone our wedding for the time being. We will not be setting a new date until this pandemic has passed completely.

With everything that is going on with COVID-19, it is impossible to deny the responsibility we have to you, our guests. You are, after all, the people who matter most to us. We don’t want you putting your health at risk for our wedding. Considering that there is no telling when these shelter-in-place guidelines will truly be lifted, we find it is best to postpone without setting a future date. This flexibility also gives us an opportunity to recover.

Even though we wish things were different, we accept that this is out of our control. So for now, we will take this time to reflect, refocus, and reaffirm our love for each other. With that intention in mind, we can celebrate what a gift planning this wedding has been. It’s been a fun, creative, and therapeutic journey - a wonderful way to envision our future together! And now that planning is on pause, we will have more space to focus on the here and now.

We wish you all so much love and safety during these uncertain times. Our best wishes to you and yours!

Love from both of us Smiley heart

I'm also attaching how I updated the headings on my wedding website. I use The Knot. You have the ability to hide pages so you don't lose your work! You can also change the headings, which was actually a lot of fun even though this was a bummer thing to have to do...it brought me joy.

You might be wondering why I left my registry on there. Not to be tacky, but just in case there are people who feel the need to give as a sign of love during this sad time - I know I would want to do that if this were my friend or family member!!

Good luck to ALL during this super random, not so fun time. You will eventually have the wedding of your dreams! And if you decide to cancel and not reschedule, that's OK too. You have the right to do whatever you want!!!
