Eloping..tipping question?

Future Mrs. Polar Bear, on April 7, 2019 at 11:12 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6

So is it true that you would normally tip an officiant?

I got an email this morning from our Elopement Package place (some would say we are having a micro wedding...8 people total including us) saying that it isn't necessary to tip the officiant but it is common. Our elopement is in the middle of nature among the Smokey Mountains in Gatlinburg, TN in 6 days. If he does a good job and a tip is expected I want to make sure to do so, but how much?

The email also said it isn't customary to tip the photographer because he's the owner of the studio, but then again if he does a good job (wont know until the photo's come in) doesn't he deserve a tip as well? Can you tip after the fact?

What do you think? Would you tip? If so, how much?

Please Note the package only cost like $600, if that helps with your answer.

If the officiant did a good job, I personally would tip him about $20 because it’s an elopement.

Yes, it's customary to tip the officiant. Without knowing how much of your package is for the officiant, I would say $20-$30 is good.

As far as the photographer, it's not as common to tip someone if they are the owner of the company, but if you're very pleased with their work, I'm sure it would still be appreciated. Yes, you can tip afterward.

I would agree on the amount for this unless you feel more is warranted. Note that it is common for people to not tip photographers and videographers until after the final product is received. We plan to send them a thank you note with a tip once we receive our photos and video.
