Elope/plan out of state elopement

Justine, on October 2, 2016 at 1:30 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Hi Smiley smile my fiancé and I have decided it's best for us to elope. We live in CO but are wanting to elope in either CA (Muir woods, redwoods, etc) or Olympic Peninsula. Maine is also an option since it is where I grew up.

Does anyone have any advice about planning an outdoor elopement out of state (planning on a wooded location)?

We have a pretty solid list of what we think we need but I'm nervous logistically about deciding on a spot (via web) and knowing if I can arrive with an officiant

get hitched. Possibly a few guests for witnesses.

Thanks so much Smiley smile I appreciate it!

I'm not eloping, but yours sounds beautiful and has meaning for eloping <3 especially the the cliche getting married at a court house and done. No offense to anybody... I don't really have advice. It sounds really organized. Hopefully someone can give better advice. Good luck and Congratulations!

You'll need to know the requirements for an officiant in whatever state/county you decide upon. I know CO is real loosey-goosey about officiants; Maine allows their Notaries Public to officiate.

Once you decide on an area, you can look on the Vendors tab above to find the vendors you'll need. When you have one vendor, you can ask for recommendations for the others.

Your plan is what I originally wanted. It still is what I want but I caved so my brothers could follow through on a promise. You sound really organized and I love the ideas!

I'm planning an out of state elopement. We chose Sedona, and actually found a venue that provides elopement packages (mine includes ceremony, photographer, florist, dinner and dessert, as well as two days lodging). They had many add on as well like suite upgrades and massages.

You should look into the venues in the area and see if they have set packages, or email the sales office to see if they can accommodate small elopement weddings. From my research, most can at least provide a private area on the property for the ceremony and set up a dinner/reception for you. This was the case when I asked several places in NY (before I found the preset packages in AZ).

You'll need to research officiants for the area, and the other vendors is they are not in a package, but the venue you choose should have a preferred vendor list to make it easier.

Thanks everyone! My best friend (a witness) thinks all we need to worry about is finding out if we need permits. She's going to look into officiant requirements!

I appreciate you taking the time to respond to an elopement post!

Google elopement and the area of your choice. Tons of info will pop up!

You may need a permit if you're off-site, like on a public trail or mountain. I would have needed one in AZ if I went into the red rocks and my officiant had information on that application process. I ended up booking a ceremony on the hotel property so I didn't need it. So look into the officiant, they might have the info for you!
