Elopement... photos

Megan, on April 3, 2021 at 1:21 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
Hey y’all!
So we’ve decided to go the elopement route on our upcoming vacation. Just us. None of our children or parents. There’s 2 packages that fit for this: one is a very bare bones basic $250 wam bam thank you ma’am thing, the other is a bit pricier at $650 but includes some photos. Adding a photographer on the cheapest packaged would be $500 extra.

My fiancé doesn’t care either way, I’m torn if I’d regret not having professional photographs of the day or if the photos we’d take ourselves + memories would suffice. Advice is appreciated - has anyone regretted not doing photos for an elopement? Or didn’t regret them.

We’re eloping in July and decided on a photographer early on in the planning process. We paid $500 for 4 hours of coverage for our beachside picnic elopement. It also includes a few engagement session. I definitely want pictures (maybe videography if we can find a budget friendly one). We both cherish photos and our family is begging for photos already. If you have the funds for it and you love the photographer’s work, go for it!

I’d definitely get the photographer to capture those moment’s. Your family won’t be there so it would be nice if they can have photos/video.

My parents eloped 36 years ago and to this day my moms biggest regret is not having pictures. And if you think about it, at the end of the day, that’s all that’s left. Get the pictures!

A photographer seems non negotiable. Memories fade over time but photos don't. Find a local photographer on Instagram with a style you love who does elopement services. Usually photographers who are employed by elopement companies are very expensive with bad pictures. So do your homework.

Personally I would pay extra for the photographer, but that’s just me. My fiancé and I are eloping in Hawaii in two weeks as well and I opted in for the most expensive photography package since we are not having a traditional wedding. I’ve always said that if we ever end up eloping I’d at least splurge on nice photos, and here we are haha. Congrats to you!

I'm going to suck up the cost for the photo expense since he doesn't care either way but thinks our iphone selfies is fiiiiine Smiley xd the company we are going through has really great photographers so the package that includes them seems fair!

I regret getting a photographer but that's bc I hate 99% of my photos. We took engagement photos about out of 200 shots, I only liked 2 of them.

If you typically like photos of yourself then I say go for it!

I don't think you'll get good photos of your own ceremony, so I would say pay for the photos

Everything that I wanted to do, and didn’t, I regretted. Based on my own experience, I’d say do what makes you happy! Congrats!

As a photographer, I always recommend considering professional photos for elopements because it’s such a special, intimate moment that you’ll want to look back on. While you can definitely capture some beautiful memories yourselves, a professional knows how to frame those little moments perfectly, and you’ll have high-quality images to treasure forever. That said, it’s really about what matters to you. If you’re more comfortable with a simple, memory-driven approach, that’s perfectly valid too. But many couples later mention wishing they had more professional shots from the day!
