Hi all!

so my FH and I have a wedding date of oct 2020. We actually decided to elope and do a courthouse wedding in June- I get off my parents insurance in July and I can get on his at work for super cheap.

We ayill I’ll plan on having our ceremony in oct 2020- we wanna celebrate still with our friends and family! Did any of y’all do this? Do people still show up?

i still want the day to be special and fun- even though technically we will have been married 1.5 years. I guess my concern is nobody showing and not making a fuss about it still.

I think people will still show up, even if it's a vow renewal & reception! People like weddings.

I agree with PP! Be honest that it's a vow renewal and those who truly love you will gladly come!

While I agree with PPs, I'll add that you may increase your chances of everyone coming if you don't mention that you got married for insurance purposes. No offense, but I'm more likely to not feel deprived of witnessing the event if I knew it was because you just couldn't wait one more second! 💛

If you were local I'd come but if I had to travel more than an hour probably not. Certainly not a plane ride. That's just me though.

I just did the same thing. My wedding is in October but my FH couldn’t wait and wanted to marry now. We’re not telling anyone that we did it though.

Idk that I can keep that a secret for a year and a half! I’m too excited 😂 all his family we invited lives in Missouri- about a 10.5 hour car ride. We want them to come- pose it as a vow renewal. But we understand if not. I just hope they can make it- everyone else is local

My husband and I did the same thing. We had a small ceremony with about 15 people. Now 1.5 years later we are having a big wedding. Not everyone is coming, but the most important people are. I am so glad we did it this way.

My wedding is Nov 9, 2019. We actually went to the courthouse with our parents and got married on Nov 9, 2018. Most of our friends and family know (except for a few) and they are all really excited to come to our wedding and celebrate our love with us. We are basically doing a 1 year vow renewal, but that just means it's a couple words changed by the officiant, everything else is the same.

So we just tell our friend (he’s our officiate) to speak as vow renewal vs actual wedding?

Yep! My pastor told us that it's literally just changing a few words and no one will really even notice (:
