Elope in a Vacation rental??

Elite, on November 24, 2017 at 9:47 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

FH and I were discussing our initial plans to have a courthouse wedding but then figured that it would be better to elope in a beautiful vacation rental with just us, our child and his parents. We absolutely fell in love with this vacation rental. It has a beautiful water front view, it's a nice property for wedding photography and it is close to everything. However, here is the catch. The property that we are interested in renting states that up to 8 guests are allowed (which in our case their is only 5) and NO EVENTS/PARTIES!! We are not having any loud music or having anyone else over other than the above listed, the Officiant and the photographer. In addition to the above, we will be the only ones exclusively sleeping there as they will only be there for the elopement. I'm thinking that this should not be a problem. However, should I mention this to the owner who lives on the property or should we just keep our mouths shut and carry on? What is the best way to go about this?

I can't see this being an issue; but honestly....you should be up front with the owner. The last thing you want is drama with the owner that lives on site...on your wedding day.

ETA I would start the conversation by saying how beautiful their property is & why you picked their place.

I agree with the others - I would just be honest and tell them exactly what you said above. Hopefully they will say it is OK. You do not want to be worrying about hiding this on your wedding day.

I would be honest, and offer to give additional security. Unfortunately for you, many people lie, and the owners may be concerned that you will end up with 20 people.

Absolutely guys...I am leaning towards telling him...I just wanted to get some opinions because the amount of guests that will be staying there matches their criteria....But the last thing I want is for a disgruntle owner ruin my wedding day just because.

Don't be leaning. Be right upfront about your plans.

Yes M'am! That's the best alternative. If they say no, then it's just not the property for us. I am looking at other properties in the area. While they are not like the one I am banking on, they are nice and some of them encourage hosting events. But, I want this one.... Hopefully they say yes.... Smiley smile

Honestly is always best! I'm sure they will be fine--they can specify in s contract the number of guests at party, that there can be no loud music, and that a max number can spend the night. Perhaps they MAY charge a fee...but in the end, you don't want to spend your wedding day worried that the owner will show up!
