Edible Wedding Favors

Marissa , on September 13, 2017 at 1:26 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 11

Based off of previous forums I've read along with some personal research I've come to the conclusion the anything edible makes the best wedding favor. That being said I've come up with some options and would like some opinions as to what would be the best option. I'm currently looking at 200-250 guests.

Dessert table- using take-home bags or plates, guests can take a variety of cakes and pastries home from the wedding including cookies, brownies, cheesecakes, ect.

Single serving pastries- a cookies or macaroon with a monogram/picture/logo/theme set out for each individual guest to take home

Candy bar- same idea as the dessert bar but with bulk candy.

I also open to other options, I would love if it stayed within the food or beverage category.

I don't really feel like a dessert table is a favor. A candy bar sounds more like a favor to me. I have been to several weddings that put a custom wrapper on a Hershey bar. I like single serve pastries best.

Whatever you choose, don't make taking home dessert on a plate an option. It's far too likely that there will be spills and stains on good clothes. If you can't provide a closed container, it should not be am option.

There are areas of the country where a cookie bar is traditional, but otherwise, I think dessert is for eating after dinner at the venue.

If I were to choose something edible, I would look for a local treat that is well known, that people love, or I would choose something that is suitable for either a late night snack after your guests get back home or to their hotel, or an early morning snack with coffee before they go for breakfast. That choice can be harder, as many things will not stay fresh overnight.

I would love the couple that provided a mini bottle of brandy and a small portion of high grade chocolate.

If you're just having a favor, to have a favor, don't have one. Cheap chocolate, Jordan almonds, mints etc are predictable and will never be viewed as a thoughtful favor by anyone. You might as well save your money. Ditto with low quality corkscrews, bottle openers etc. Anything you can buy for $1-$2 per guest is going to be cheaply made and fall apart with the first use. Skip it.

It's tradition where i'm from to have a cookie table but that's not a favor in and of itself more of just extra desert. I am going to have some bags incase people want to take cookies back their hotel rooms though. our actual favor is a flip flop shaped bottle opener fridge magnet. Also FMIL might be making sea shell shaped chocolates we can give out. Depends on how much time she has but FH may go help her. She is making other cookies and also hemming my dress.

I was thinking a candy bar but now I love JJ's popcorn bar as FH loves popcorn. Great idea! I always loved having something edible as opposed to bubbles that I'll take home and forget somewhere

I like the idea of macaroons. I have celiac disease so I always get excited when macaroons are part of the equation. If your Ohio state fans then maybe buckeyes. If you have a good chocolate shop nearby then some truffles. Nips (small bottles) of liquor distilled in your home state. Small bottle of local honey, jam, salsa, spices, seasoning.

Edit - information - you can get personalized labels or personalized small brown bags printed on etsy, So you can buy items in bulk and put the label on them or stick them in a little bag.

A favor should be prepackaged. Go with the candy or the macaroons!

I'm a fan of single high quality treats over bulk generic candy. I can buy myself candy at the store any time. Macaroons, truffles, or goods from a local bakery/chocolate shop seem a lot more thoughtful and are easy to add a personal touch. And prepackaging them makes everything go a lot smoother!

I like the idea of a candy bar, because guests can create their own favors based on their own taste. I have also heard of weddings with 2 packs of Krispy Kreme donuts for the guests. I love this idea, because they'll have a snack for the morning after, and who doesn't love Krispy Kremes? :-)

These are all amazing ideas, doe anyone know where to find personalized truffles, macaroons, ect. ?

Also Tigerlily19, I am a huge fan of the Krispy Kreme idea, although I'm also a huge sucker for some fresh warm donuts Smiley smile

I'm doing a candy bar. The candy will be in over sized drink glasses. I'm going to get glass jars from Ikea. I may etch them too.
