Eco4 diamond vs moissanite?

Kelsey, on January 18, 2017 at 3:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Hi all! My boyfriend and I have begun looking at engagement rings (ok, I've been looking for a while Smiley winking but we know for sure we don't want a land mined diamond. The other options are eco4 or moissanite and wondering if anyone here had compared the two before and wanted to know your thoughts! Thanks!!

It's really just a matter of taste! I think moissanite stones can be gorgeous (I saw a ring on here recently with rose gold band that reflected in the stone and it was breathtaking), but if you want a diamond, go for the lab diamond!

I've never compared the two but I have moissanite earrings and adore them! The rainbow flashes of light are mesmerizing.

I'm NOT telling you to leave these forums, you are totally welcome here....but I will suggest that the Wedding Bee ring forums have a ton of moissy vs. diamond threads so you might want to go peek over there for some photos/videos. Since they have a dedicated ring forum you will probably have luck over there.

My ring has been ordered and it's Moissanite. We went to the jeweler and they compared a diamond and a Moissanite gem next to each other and I personally thought the moissanite was prettier. It reflected more colors and sparkled beautifully. It's also about a quarter of the price of a diamond that would have fit in the same ring. They also explained that diamonds are a 10 on the hardness scale, so they can only be scratched by another diamond, but moissanite is a 9.5 so it's almost as durable.

    I highly recommend the moissanite.

I do work with environmental policy so I definitely didn't want a land mined diamond. I considered doing a lab created diamond but I fell in love with moissanites (also lab created so less environmental impact). I love my moissanite ring and wouldn't change it. Usually, they tend to be cheaper but we did spend a bit more because I wanted a higher quality ring so I would definitely shop around a bit.

Can I ask if it is a personal preference or an ethical question? If you want a diamond, but a conflict free diamond or something along those lines, there are a lot of companies that take pride in that. http://www.brilliantearth.com/conflict-free-diamonds/?gclid=CjwKEAiAwfzDBRCRmJe7z_7h8yQSJAC4corOhRXx8HrPuSa9rsumvpeuwFr1qG6FgnrRK4B2hN269RoCn37w_wcB is a good place to start (they also have Moissanite options) - as well as any vintage re-seller that has rings from the early 1920's or earlier.

I think all options are very personal - and really you cannot go wrong with bling Smiley smile - just throwing an idea out there.

@K.M. my best friend's is from there too. It is BEAUTIFUL and I love what they stand for and all of their options. Mine was an heirloom that was reset by Heidi Gibson, but if it wasn't BE would defiantly be my preferred choice!

    Edit, little !!! happy.

I have a lab-grown diamond but was kinda hoping for moissanite because they seem like an all-around better value!

Moissanites are beautiful! Just keep in mind that they are NOT diamond substitutes and have their own unique properties. So if you do get one, get it because you like them and not because you're trying to dupe a diamond. A lot of people will be able to tell the difference. That being said, I love the idea of getting such a beautiful and sturdy stone at the fraction of a price! I personally think that diamond prices (both mined and lab created) are ridiculous!

You can't tell my moissanite isn't diamond. It's 1.5 ct center & 1.75 total. Add my bands & ive got 2.3 ct total. We could never afford that in diamond & why would we want to when moissanite out performs diamonds in every way

Check out the Amora gem. It's similar to the mossanite but is harder and more diamond-like.

As PP's said, google "mossanite vs. diamond" or Amora gem and check out the various wedding bee forums and reviews.
