Earn points toward hotel block

Heather, on December 4, 2018 at 4:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 6
I'm booking a hotel block with Delta Marriott Hunt Valley. I'm not a Marriott member. Any tips on gaining/using points to pay for the bride's/groom's room?

We were married at a Marriott. My parents signed up for a Marriott cc and used it to pay for a lot of things for the wedding. Mine, my sister's, and my parent's rooms were all covered by points.

My parents also signed up for a Marriott credit card. Since they’re paying for the venue fees and food/drinks, they’ll get tons of points. Our venue may be different because they don’t get the points until the event happens, even though they’ve already paid about half. When they signed up for the cc I think there was a deal where they got a certain amount of points if they spent like $3k in the first 3 months (don’t quote me on that though).

You can be a Marriott Member for free so I would join to get the points.

Can’t hurt to sign up since it’s free. However if you are only booking your block there, you need to confirm who gets the points for the rooms picked up. Most of the time they don’t give the points to you unless you are paying for the room itself. Especially if someone else in your block is using their own rewards account.

We blocked rooms at a Marriott hotel. Since we had at least 20 rooms booked from our block our room was free.

Also regarding the points, your guests should get their points as usual, but make sure to negotiate with them to give you points too. We did this and while we didn't get the same full points our guests did, we did get some points for every room booked through our block.

This is what I did. It's free to set up the points and then you just tie the reward number to the room block.
