Early Wedding Shower?

So I am I’m need of some advice. My grandmother is planning my fiancée and I a wedding shower in Texas (we live in PA) and were trying to set a date for it. I know most places I’m looking say that having a party more than 5 months before the wedding is a bad idea but all the reasons don’t really apply in our situation.

We’re thinking October of this year but that’s 8 months before our wedding. Most of the reasoning is because some people will be in town then and our wedding requires travel for most of our guest list anyway. I feel like having a buffer before the wedding is more practical.

We are about to send our Save the Dates our (about 10 months before the wedding) because most of our guest list are coming in from out of state and they all wanted more time to get plans situated. So guest list isn’t an issue. And we’re already registered as well.
We don’t have many friends on our guest list so I’m not worried about some not being our friends later either.

I don't know what to do, I’m not sure if having it that early is bad or not.
