Early fade-in Recessional Music? Thoughts?

Holly, on April 11, 2016 at 9:09 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

We are having a string quartet for our ceremony and cocktail hour, and they play tons of pop songs ala Vitamin String Quartet style.

What are your thoughts on quietly fading in the recessional song during the final passage the Officiant reads, "by the power vested in me yada yada kiss the bride" to get through the intro by the time the Recessional actually starts? I've been having trouble coming up with a recessional song that I really connect with, but I just love the string version of Just The Way You Are (Bruno Mars) and could totally envision it being magical. The Officiant will be mic'ed...

Has anyone else done this, or experienced this at other weddings, and were there any issues with it?

I have thought of doing this for ours. The song we are planning on using is "All Yours" by Metric. It's the song that was used at the end of Twilight: New Moon (I think, could've been one of the other ones) and the song opens with 8 counts of just guitar. We will have an acoustic guitarist (who will also sing) and in my head, I envision him starting to do the first 8 counts of the song after our officiant announces we can kiss. Then, our officiant would introduce us as Mr and Mrs and at that point, we will have taken up the first 8 counts so the guitarist can start the vocal part. I kinda wanted it to feel like the end of a movie and since that song is actually from the end of that movie, I thought it would be fitting. Obviously, I have no idea how it will actually turn out, but it works in my mind! Smiley smile

This would have never even crossed my mind! lol

I think this is something that your guests won't even really notice... maybe talk to your officiant/venue for some of their thoughts and advice.

Hi Holly! You can def. pull this off. It would be cool if the musicians start playing RIGHT before the officiant begins saying "by the power vested in me......". Will your quartet be attending your rehearsal? (they should if possible)- you'll be able to time things perfectly then and/or your coordinator or officiant can work out a que for them to start if they cannot attend the rehearsal. Best Wishes!

As a music major I've thought about this so much! Plus awkward silence/gaps make me really uncomfortable. I was just at a wedding where there was a good 30 seconds of silence after the officiant pronounced them husband and wife.

But I'm glad I'm not the only one who cares so much about the music timing! FH doesn't understand ...

That sounds like a great idea! I'm using "The Prologue" from Final Fantasy, which starts off loud so this isn't doable for me.
