Early ceremony...when do you do the reception?

I’m getting married in December of 2019, and since it’s winter, the sun sets around 4:30. We are thinking of doing a 2:30 pm ceremony with photos after and a 5 pm cocktail hour. Yes, it can be which is why we paid for everyone's accommodations at the Fairmont and splurged on them all weekend. We had 40 guests and spent close to $45,000 on the weekend. We knew we were asking a lot of them and made sure to make it up to them.

I’m having a big gap, and while I understand it’s not convienient for some I don’t feel like it’s rude. I’ve gone to weddings with gaps and it was nbd. The times will be on the invitations so it’s at their discretion, I will completely understand the people who only come to the reception. At the end of the day it’s our wedding and with the church and venue we picked we had no other choice. It’s never our intention to be rude, but it is to plan our dream wedding.
