E-ring/wedding Band Gap?

Rachel, on May 14, 2020 at 8:12 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Hi! I'm super torn right now as to what to do about my wedding band. My e-ring has a lower setting, so there's no way for me to have a flush fit with a straight band. However, I'm not a huge fan of the curved bands because I don't love how they look by themselves (they're okay, just not as good as a straight band imo), and my e-ring also tends to twist and slide on my finger a bit. I'm worried that because of the sliding factor, they wouldn't always align perfectly anyway and that would end up looking worse. Opinions? Any brides out there have the same issues or rock the gap?

My engagement ring was always sliding on my finger and they said it was because of the size of the diamond, I got sizing beads put on the ring and it stops it from moving around so much😊

I think it looks pretty like that and sets the ring off. Sometimes I wish I had a gap bc I just like the way they look.

My set is almost identical to yours (I'll attach pictures). What I ended up doing was taking my ring to a local jeweler to adjust the setting on my engagement ring. In one side I had them remove the lower part of the basket that sat right on my finger so that I could slide my wedding band flush against the ring. I made sure that this change wouldn't compromise the integrity of the rings structure, they confirmed that it wouldn't and that when I slide my band on it will actually provide more support now.

    Here's before and after

The lady at the jewelry store told me I could get them welded together if I was worried about the spinning. I haven’t decided yet but I think they look beautiful together.

I would wear my wedding band on my right ring finger. Different background, different culture. Maybe you want to give it a try?

I had that same gap problem with most wedding bands, but after trying a bunch on at different stores found one specific ring with a lower profile that solved the problem (the most expensive of course!) So there may be options that make it at least a little less noticeable?

Thanks everyone! I really appreciate the feedback, and I think I'm going to stick with the current band that I have. Also, loved seeing everyone's rings! Smiley smile

How often do you wear your rings together vs just your wedding band?

I have a curved band that contours to fit around my e-ring, but the curve is pretty slight, so wearing it by itself doesn't look that wonky. Also I opted for a plain band so I could turn the ring around when wearing my wedding band solo, that way the un-curved back of the ring is visible and looks perfectly straight. I do a lot with my hands, so wear a silicone band on active days (when I'm teaching fitness classes or doing outdoor activities), my wedding band on regular days (office work, shopping, etc), and my wedding band and e-ring together for going out to dinner, special occasions, etc. I often wear one ring without the other.

If you rarely wear just your wedding band solo, then I would choose a band that suits your e-ring. If you often wear your band solo, then I'd prioritize having a band you like and just deal with the gap during the odd times when you wear both rings together.

One thing to consider - if you get a contoured wedding band that is a full eternity band with diamonds all around, then you can just reverse it when wearing it solo so it looks like a straight band. If the curve is pretty significant, you can also flip your band upside down so the bend goes up towards your fingertip instead of down towards your hand and follows the contour of your finger when you fold your hands into a fist, that way it isn't uncomfortable at all.

PS: Your rings are super pretty!

My band has the center of it bumped out so it’ll fit flush with the ring. Maybe that will work with your ring as wellE-ring/wedding Band Gap? 9

Hi!! Can you please upload a picture of where the jewelers adjusted your ring basket? Thinking of doing this but not sure how it’ll work exactly! Thanks xo!

I had my jeweler remove the lower portion of the basket on one side. My band slides right against my ring now and it hasn’t lost any structural integrity

This is fantastic! I would love to do the same thing. Do you mind sharing approximate cost for this type of change? Was it pretty reasonable?

After the wedding you can have the bands soldered together. That is what I'm doing.

I did it at a local jeweler. I don’t remember the exact cost, but it was somewhere around $60 and was done within two weeks
