E-pics tomorrow... How much are makeup counter makeovers? I'm a broke bride :)

Jennifer, on October 8, 2011 at 6:58 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 16

Hi all! We're having our e-pics done tomorrow and I would really like to have someone do my makeup. I was thinking of going to the mall and seeing if I could get a free makeover. Anyone done this? If so, how much did they expect you to spend?

If you go to MAC in a Macy's you just need to purchase $50 in products

Wow -- pretty dicey to experiment right before your pictures... you need to be sure they are doing makeup appropriate for the lighting / time of day etc... as makeup for pictures is different than every day.

you should let them know you are going to have pictures done -- you may be able to find someone with experience in that... then just give them some guidelines on what you want so you look like you want... ;o)

depending on the line, it's anywhere from $50 - $150 in purchases. good luck and have fun!!

Lancome in Dillards does makeovers for free. No product purchase required. One of my gf's works there and she has given me makeovers a couple of times just for fun!

Also I've had my make-up done at MAC several times for special occasions or just a night out on the town. If you tell them you just want your eyes done they will do it complimentary (no product purchase required). So basically they do your eyes and usually if the occassion is an evening occassion I will buy some eyelashes which are only $12. But your not required to buy anything if they are just having your eyes done. To me that is the part about your make-up that makes your face. It's not hard to add a little powder and blush yourself. Oh and lipstick if you wear it. I've only gone to MAC stores in the mall. In otherwards the MAC counters inside Macy's and Dillard's aren't actually indepndent MAC stores so I'm not sure if they honor the same complimentary policy. But most big malls have a MAC store by itself.

They are free at most counters, however a purchase of some sort is expected.

I'd be leary of doing that, because many of those makeovers don't end up looking very well. Or they look good under the flourescent lights of the store, but awful in real life.

Ashlee is correct about making sure you find a makeup artist experienced in photography, lighting, etc. He/she will understand highlighting, contouring, and other skills needed to make sure your photos come out fantastic. Counter makeup artists are excellent for every day makeup but may not be trained in makeup for photography. And, most counter makeup contains SPF which may cause your face to appear white-ish in photos.

I've had brides who used the makeup trial as a chance to have their makeup done for their engagement photos. This way you can knock out both the engagement photo makeup and wedding day consultation trial at the same time.

I agree you have to be careful about who you choose to do your make-up. Alot of the make-up artists at MAC wear their make-up like a clown so you have to be honest with them and explain to them the look your wanting. To be honest I've never had a bad make-over experience at MAC. I attached a pic from my makeover at Lancome (haven't had one at MAC in a while). I had never even worn lipstick in my adult life before my friend did this makeover. I've always been a lipgloss kind of girl b/c i felt like it was too hard to match a lipstick shade to my skin but after this I actually bought the lipstick and wear it quite a bit. Good luck!

@Chrishawn you look beautiful. Maybe I'll give lancome a whirl instead. Our shoot isn't until 5:30 so I can always wash it off if it looks too horrible. Thanks!

Thanks JenniferSmiley smile I would reccommend going early b/c you may have to wait and if you don't like it you can wash it off and do your own. Too bad you don't live in the DFW (Dallas) area or I would refer you to my friend at Lancome. Either way I'm sure you will look beautiful for your engagement pics! Make sure and post them. I can't wait to see them. I need to schedule mine but I can't decide where to take them.

I used to work for Lancome at Dillards...while the makeover is free...they do prefer you to make a purchase for their time. Dillards employees are expected to meet a very high sales per hour quota and if they don't meet it...they get pay cuts at review time...seriously!

Even if you just buy the lipgloss or eyeshadow..it's better than nothing! However, my favorite lancome product are their tweezers..they're like $30 or more but are the BEST tweezers ever!

I'm pretty sure that clinique does free make overs! Also, if there is a BODY SHOP in your area, they will do it there too and their make up is wonderful Smiley smile
