Dying a veil

FutureMrsPesik, on March 20, 2016 at 10:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

So my mom cut up her wedding dress to make me a veil. I am completely honored! However, her dress was white and mine is ivory. We brought the veil to the first fitting and it's evident there is a difference. I googled similar situations and it looks like you can dye it with tea bags. Has anyone dyed something to ivory? In scared but I really want to wear it, especially since she already cut it up. The picture below shows the difference.. You can tell a little more in real life. My dress is above, veil below.

Is there any leftover fabric to try with a tea bag? That should definitely work, but I have no idea about timing. I know I've seen on other website that girls did it and it came out wonderfully. If you can find a way to take a small snippet of the veil and try dying that, I would do it that way.

I'm having mine tea dyed! A lady I work with is going to match it to my dress.

I've dyed lace with tea before and it worked great. Take a sample and try it for different amounts of time it will give you a good idea how dark it will be.

Just be careful how long you do it. I dyed lace for my veil and the directions said 10 minutes. I did 6 and it was waaaaaay to dark. I had to buy more lace and try again. It was in for 2 minutes! Just remember to do it little by little, and immediately rinse it in warm water if you went to dark. That will help get some of the color out, if tea is similar to dye.

I second trying to find another piece to practice on.

Thanks everyone! Makes me feel a little better knowing others have done it with success.

I would definitely practice first, but that's a really good idea!
