Dyed shoes

afullerlife, on August 3, 2017 at 8:20 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

Has anyone done it? I found perfect shoes that I want to get dyed professionally through dyeables but I'm nervous it will rain or there will be dew on the ground and the stain will come out. Help? What are your thoughts?!

I wore them as a bridesmaid. I didn't mind them. The shoes where too big for me. Luckily I only had to wear them for 30 mins

I have dyed Navy Blue shoes for my wedding in 2 weeks, I am not worried if the dye will run. If professionally done I think it will be okay in any weather

I wore some for my sisters wedding. That was about 10 years ago though haha BUT the color hasn't faded so that's a good sign!

I'm doing custom dyed shoes. If you're doing a lighter dye, you should be fine with most weather.

However, per the cobbler who is making/dying my shoes, wet grass is a KILLER for any dyed shoe. The dye doesn't stand a chance because every little blade of grass is like a little tongue (weird analogy but it makes sense) that constantly licks the dye off the shoe. If you walk in wet grass, especially with dark dyed shoes, you likely will end up with the dye running and staining your feet or dress. This happened to a family friend's shoes - she was MOB and her navy blue dye ended up staining her feet because it had rained earlier in the day and her daughter had her ceremony and photos on a golf course.

I'm not worried for me because we're getting married on a stone patio or indoors, if the weather is uncooperative. But if you are planning a ceremony or reception on grass, I would avoid dyed shoes.

I have never worn them but I spoke to a cobbler who does them to inquire and he said they could run...but to wear them around the house a bit with old socks beforehand in order to get off any extra dye (so you won't have blue toes or whatever when your feet start to sweat).

I've used Scotchguard to protect fabric and dyed fabric shoes. It will allow water to bead or run off, but won't protect from a thorough soaking. Another benefit is it helps protect the fabric uppers of your shoes from getting easily scuffed. I have tested the Scotchguard on the fabric sample that comes with dyeable shoes first, before spraying my shoes to be sure it doesn't change or run the color. Then I stuff tissue paper inside the shoes and spray them... 2 to 3 coats, allowing each coat to dry before spraying again.
