Dusty blue, sage green, and ivory wedding colors. Need some inputs on bridemaid dress color

Monica, on June 14, 2020 at 2:56 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9

Hello all, hope everyone is staying safe during Covid-19. I am in the process of planning my wedding, I just ordered some dusty blue table cloth with some ivory table runners. I keep jumping back and forth on what the girls should wear. I'm leaning more towards dusty blue, but given that my table cloths are dusty blue idk if that would be too much. should I have them wear sage green instead? or how about half wear sage green and half wear dusty blue?

thank you in advance for any input Smiley smile

Dusty blue, sage green and gold were our colors! We did blue table clothes and BM dresses and the green was brought in more with our florals, greenery, decor and other accents. I went with dusty blue for the dresses because I thought my girls would look better in them lol. They’re all pretty fair and I see them in blues more often than greens! I don’t think having tables and dresses both blue is too much at all since they won’t looked at together really. It’s up to you but I think either color would work!

Thanks Courtney for your input, yeah I agree I feel like my girls would look better in dusty blue but really like the sage green as an option too, doesn't help that I am indecisive. I was thinking to do the same with having greenery such as eucalyptus to bring out the green.

I don’t think it’ll be too much dusty blue if they wore it too

Having bridesmaids wear colors in the exact matching color as tablecloths usually does not work as well, especially for photos. Picking colors of the same mix or type, but a lighter or darker shade in the color family, means the bridesmaids stand out from their background more. In candid photos, you do not want women standing in front of a tablecloth the exact same color to seem to have a box growing out of their side, because with the camera focus set for particular faces, gowns merge into tablecloths, or background curtains, the same color, one same colored blob. Shadows, and variations in color shades, or light and dark, help outline the body and dress lines, so your eye sees a person in a stylish dress, next to another. Next to a table. Generally, people do not dress to match their furniture or linens. Bad design, bad fashion. So have only small touches that may be exact matches to dresses. A flower, ribbon, napkins. And use different shades in the same family to make dresses stand out from major swaths of color in the background.
I like the look of wedding parties that are coordinated, with no clashes, but do not match. There is an article photo on WW now pushing purple weddings. But for me, it is a case for not having dresses match. But matching dresses or not, keep background furnishings colors slightly different. I love dusty blue, really all the Victorian blues with a little touch of grey in the tone. And the bluish sage green.

I don’t think the suggestion is to use the same exact fabric and color for tables and dresses, but the same tones and color story! It would be nearly impossible to match the same exact color for both - but green vs blue is pretty distinct. I’d focus on the color that would look best on the BMs and in portraits. I’ve never heard of someone telling a bride not to have white table clothes so she doesn’t “blend in” during dinner

Having once had a vacation job, having to sort and inventory white shades of wedding dresses, and found that particular warehouse had over 160 different shades of winter white, diamond white, snow, whatever, the fabric differences ( lace, satin etc) usually make the bride stand out. But many people do come with color swatches of their chosen dress colors, trying to get exact matches to linens, ribbons, and it is a lot of work, best not done.

Thank you for the input Judith, I understand what you mean but just like Courtney mentioned it will not be the same fabric so the tone of color is slightly different plus they would be sitting in tables with out the table cloth Dusty blue, sage green, and ivory wedding colors. We’re using a lot of dusty blue in our wedding too! I don’t think dusty blue dresses would be goo much at all. But if you want a pop of color the girls could wear orange or coral... it goes beautifully with the dusty blue.
