Dumb Engagement Photo Question

Sara, on September 9, 2018 at 5:19 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Do your engagement photos have to match the season your wedding is in?

For instance, since my wedding is in the summer, would it be bad to have engagement photos in the fall with fall clothing?

I know this is a stupid question, but it has been on my mind!

No! Not at all! First of all it’s going to be hard to do engagement photos next summer, unless you’ll use other photos for STD’s. And the way I see it...it’s nice to look at those pics sometime later in life and see each other together and will be nice to see each other then just in your wedding stuff. My husband and I did our wedding photos last September and it was cool on the beach, so we were in pants and sweaters. We got married this past August....both photo opportunities were exactly “us” and how people would see us and know us as a couple.

    Hi Sara!

You definitely don't need to match the season of your wedding for your engagement photos. In fact, sometimes it's nice to get photos of your and your SO in a different season! I'm having a Christmas wedding, but we got our engagement photos done in the springtime and we loved them!

That's totally fine! You get your engagement pictures when you get engaged so if that happens to be in the fall it's in the fall. They don't need to be the same season. If anything it might be better to have 2 different types of pics

You don’t need to match the season you are getting married on. I got my engagement photos in spring and I have a fall wedding.

I don't think that's an issue. After all you got engaged a different time of year. Congrats!!

Nope! We are getting married in December (very winter themed) but had one engagement session in July on the beach/jetty and will be doing another next month in the woods so we get the fall foliage. We wanted to do one at Pride (but werent able to) to get some spring too (though if we can figure out a way to recreate that look we will). Using different seasons lets you show more sides of you.

Definitely not! We toyed with the idea of a winter wedding but in Minnesota that could get pretty crazy so decided on fall (later changed to a DW in Colorado anyway). We did do our engagement photos in the snow though and they turned out beautifully! Best of both worlds.

Hey Sara!!! This is a perfectly legitimate question to ask!! If you really want to do it that way, go for it, but I think people understand that you're taking engagement pictures closer to when you got engaged and not closer to your wedding day. Smiley smile Do you have any ideas where you want to get your engagement pictures taken?

No not at all! I think it would actually be a cool idea to have them be different. Would make a cool contrast for invitation suite if you use a photo for STDs and also for framing photos to hang

Nope. Even if you’re using the pictures for a save the date,no one will even connect the dots.

I don’t think it matters! We had summer engagement photos and we’re having a summer wedding but that’s only because we got engaged in December and we live in the northeast and I hate the cold hahaha. I also really wanted to do our engagement photos on the beach where we said I love you for the first time, so we had to wait until it was beach weather.

So our engagement photos match our wedding season but it’s only a coincidence. In theory I’d actually probably prefer it if our engagement photos matched the season we got engaged in... but no way could you get me outside for a photo shoot in 30 degree weather :p

You don't have to match at all! We got engaged in November of 2017 and our wedding is in a week and a half, so it would be very hard to get fall photos! We took ours in July and they look beautiful. You can even see some 4th of July decorations in the background of one of them lol

It isn’t a stupid question! I think you should wear what you are most comfortable wearing.

Do it! Just do what makes you happy! We are getting married in July next year and our engagement photo session is coming up this month! I think it's fun to have a little bit of a different atmosphere so your wedding photos and engagement photos are different and that much more special!
