Dueling Pianos or DJ?

Spaghetti, on July 17, 2017 at 6:46 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

My fiancé and I are trying to decide whether it is worth it to pay more to book dueling pianos for the reception. The DJ is $1,300 less than Dueling Pianos however we are able to afford it. I like that it's unique but no matter how many videos I watch I just can't decide. We are going to try to see them live soon. 80% of our guests are family so the middle aged folks will out number the younger adults (20s-30s), I want to cater our music to what our guests will enjoy the most!

Anybody been to a wedding with dueling pianos? What are your thoughts?

EDIT: here's a video as an example https://youtu.be/brjnUYonL-I

I think variety is key. Although I took piano lessons for years, I don't think I'd want to listen to pianos playing, for 4 hours or more.

I love dueling piano bars, but it definitely depends on what kind of atmosphere you want. If you want people to dance, I'd go with a DJ.

I actually love the dueling pianos idea though you REALLY have to know your crowd for it.

@Kate I don't think we could do it just for an hour...but maybe it's worth asking

@Sarah what do you mean exactly? Do you agree that if we want people dancing then DJ would be better?

If people want dancing, they would prefer a DJ.

Dueling pianos sounds AWESOME!! I've been to a few dueling piano bars and they play plenty of music people could dance to and they are so funny and entertaining. This would make your wedding so unique and fun! Also, the non dancers would appreciate the entertainment. 100% spring for the pianos.

You really have to know your crowd to pull this off. I would personally go with a DJ. I tried to do something different at my wedding too, so we got a guy who's both a DJ and KJ (karaoke). The karaoke did NOT go over well. I'm glad we had somebody who did both and knew when to cut the karaoke.

I went to a wedding with dueling pianos. I wasn't a huge fan of it. There weren't many people out on the dance floor. It depends on the genre of music you want too; can't really do too many top hits

I'd book them for cocktail hour and get a DJ for the reception
