Dual language invitations?

Karla, on August 21, 2019 at 9:37 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 13
So I am 50% Caucasian & 50% Mexican.

90% of my Mexican side of the family does not speak any English at all. So I was thinking to make my invitations one side English the other side Spanish. Now, obviously with any invitation you can easily find the important-date, time & place. But let’s be honest Mexicans do not rsvp to anything! Lol! So to encourage them to actually RSVP, I thought it’d be nice to do both languages on the invitation so it’s very clear I need RSVP’s & they can actually understand what it says. Good idea??

Sounds like a great way to include everyone and try to boost those RSVP's!

I did some of my rsvps in Spanish and my invitation in English but our invites were very simple! Don’t worry I’m not expecting anyone to rsvp either lol but I did this to tell everyone I’ve only reserved x amount of seats for them!

I wish there was a way I can do that. We are inviting less than 50 people. Like only 2 only dont understand English. I'm hoping my mon translates it to my nina lol. Plus itll be a waste to just order 2 when certain sites only allow you to buy a certain amount.
But I do worry my side wont. My mom gets upset and feels insulted when someone registers and she has to go to that store lol.
In a way I kinda want to know if they do. But good luck lol.

You can try doing a DIY invite for those 2 people and be a little crafty with it so they don’t feel offended and feel more involved. It won’t be time consuming since it’s only 2 but I understand where you’re coming from, it’s hard to please everyone especially when there’s cultural differences 😭 thanks, you too!

My FH is from Guatemala and I had the same thought process when it came to invitations. RSVPing doesn’t really exist in their culture and I was mindful of that. Also, they are fashionably late for everything.

I didn’t want to buy two sets of invitations in two different languages and I had a hard time finding bilingual invites so I ended up making my own with both English and Spanish together. For the RSVP I sent them a card with info on sending the RSVP via email and surprisingly so many sent an email or even sent their RSVP in a facebook message to FH. So that helped us to get a headcount but I’m still expecting extra people to just show up.

Here is how I did our invitations:

Awesome!! That is a very good idea! Thanks for showing me yours 💗 & yes it’s very difficult to get a head count knowing their cultural ways lol I’m definitely also expecting more than what’s being reserved. Thanks a lot for the help!

I'll try doing this if the bilingual one dont work out. But that's a smart idea. Get cardstock paper and print em. Very simple. This way everyone is included.

I love this idea! FH is Costa Rican, so we've discussed doing bilingual invitations and wedding programs. Ideally the whole wedding ceremony would be bilingual, but that may not be practical.

Our whole ceremony will be bilingual but its a shorter ceremony. He will do his vows in Spanish and I’ll do mine in English so we wont have to say them twice.

Yes, this is a nice idea! Just yesterday we received a wedding invitation that had one side in English and the other in Hebrew since the bride is inviting some family from Israel. We thought it was a nice and inclusive touch.
