Dry Hair

Kaitlyn, on March 11, 2020 at 4:09 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 12

So I got my hair dyed/highlighted/balayaged whatever you want to call it, about a month and a half ago. I also had my split ends trimmed.

I use a color protecting shampoo, a moisturizing conditioner, I have a deep conditioning mask, heat protectant that I use, and I take a daily hair, skin & nails vitamin.

But my hair is still so dry!!!! My hair is never usually like this and now it only looks good if I straighten it, which 1) I'm too lazy to do and 2) I know that's not good for my dry ends!

Help me I don't want terrible looking hair on my wedding day Smiley cry

Bleach is one of the most harsh things that you can do on your hair, but not terrible as long as you take care of it (which sounds like you are) curious, what products are you using?? Consistency is key. As long as you keep using good shampoo/conditioner/mask you will be fine. What’s your normal texture like? Do you have straight/wavy/curly hair?

I’m not sure if this works for anyone else but I swear by it: 2x a week I oil my hair w Alma oil (bought on Amazon) but when I apply the oil I focus on my scalp/roots. I don’t do a ton of oil, bc don’t want to overdo and be greasy. But wipe excess oil onto hair, put into a bun and let oil sit for 30 min. Then shower as normal. This is mainly to moisturize your scalp which in turn strengthens your roots... and then strengthens your overall strand. My hair is stronger, more resilient, and healthy now.
Also sleep on a silk pillow case to prevent further breakage. I brush my hair after showers but when dry only use a comb, again so as not to break hair. Finally: I try to shower w warm water (not super hot) bc hot water dries it skin and hair. I end showers w cool rinse, which is better for skin and hair.
Finally your hair dresser may have more products in mind to help. Good luck!

I'm guessing its probably the bleach. However if it helps any this winter has absolutely destroyed my hair. I dont know what it is! And also add on stress 😂 stress has murdered my skin my nails and possibly helped in ruining my hair. I wish I had the answer but I dont lol

I might have to try this! I usually rinse with barely-warm water (because our buildings hot water is trash and lasts for like ten minutes tops), and I only brush my hair wet because it gets so frizzy. Frizz I am used to, but this dryness is killing me!!!!! Smiley atonished

My hair has probably been like this before but I was so careless with my hair that I didn't notice. I bleached and dyed my hair all different crazy colors for most of 2016-17, but I haven't bleached it in well over 2 years so I guess my hair freaked out on me!

I use all Satinique products, and I try to wash my hair only twice a week so I don't strip it of oils. It's between a wave and a curl and unless I straighten it, it just frizzes out and looks like straw lately.

I always have really dry hair & skin (because I live in Colorado). I'd shampoo your hair as little as possible (however long you can go using dry shampoo) so your natural oils can hydrate your hair & you don't strip your hair of oil. I'd trim it a few weeks out from your wedding to get rid of dead ends. I put coconut oil on my hair once a week for 30 minutes and that seems to help with how dry it is. I also sleep on a silk pillowcase I got on Amazon, and I use scrunchies (not hair ties). And I almost never dry my hair and I avoid curlers or straightening irons unless really needed. Do you have a whole house humidifier or room humidifier you can run at night? I also saw growth & overall improvement in health when I used Ovation Cell Therapy (shampoo, conditioner, treatment & mask). When you shower, use cold water. When you brush it out, use a good leave in conditioner & thermal protect & use a wet brush or comb (or something that doesn't pull your hair). Try to avoid coloring until after your wedding. I'm sure you'll see progress from now to May, especially if you're taking all these steps!

I’ve not heard of santinique before but I would definitely recommend trying Redken extreme (regular size bottles) and using them for a month using them 3x week, you don’t want to use them for more than 6 weeks because it contains protein that builds your hair back up and heals if, but if used for extended periods, it can feel worse. So, 6 weeks of Redken extreme and then continue with Redken All Soft (gold bottles) Promise you will see a difference.

I use matrix biolage hydrasource. I shampoo about 3 times a week. I use the brand wet brush to brush my hair because they say it’s better for your hair 🤷‍♀️ I also suffer from split/dead ends so I’m trying to trim as much as I can now. My wedding is in November. Also for reference I’m in Florida where I just have learned to deal with the small amount of frizz that I am going to always have lol.

I feel ya. I have frizzy hair too and I live in AZ. I stopped using product, straightening my hair all year because of this problem too. I still haven't found moisturizer and I have bought quite a few conditioners to put in my hair.

It sounds like your already doing a lot to help your hair, something I am considering is the function of beauty shampoo/conditioner where you enter your hair type and what you want from the shampoo/ conditioner. also you might want to try this product by Amika its called the Flash instant shine mask. look it up and see if its something you might want to try!

I have vivid, bright royal blue hair and I use Amika The Cure Hair Repair Mask once a week. TOTALLY makes a difference. Keeps my ends soft, and helps the color stay bright and keep from fading. I just put on my hair for 20 minutes to let it set, then wash and condition as normal....however, because of my hair being blue I only wash once a week to help the color keep from fading and use dry shampoo and dry conditioner instead, which I think helps keep my hair from being dried out because it's not getting overwashed.

Maybe cut down on how often you wash and use a deep hair mask once a week? It smells so good and really keeps your hair feeling soft.
