Drop Off Catering

Xianne, on February 14, 2019 at 11:19 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
Hi. So I have less than two months to my wedding and I feel like it’s gonna be tacky food wise. My mother in law ordered the food the minute we decided on a date. She ordered it from a Mexican place she ordered a lot like meat, beans, rice, salsa, chips, and tortilla good for 180 people. And now she wants us to add like Asian food just to make sure that everyone eats. But I’m just worried. Will that look tacky? Mexican food and Asian food from a restaurant since they though big orders? And what makes me mad is that we can’t change it anymore because it’s too late. Heeeeeelp.

If it makes you mad, why did you let her order it in the first place? I don't think it would be "tacky" to mix the cuisines, but I'm not sure it's entirely necessary either.

I don't think it would be tacky. Personally, I would love the couple of options since I hate all Mexican food and would have to leave to get dinner.

I'm having different kinds of food at my wedding since we're doing stations. Maybe you can set them up in different parts of the room like a food hall? Then it would be a bit fun as opposed to a bunch of different types of food. Each type of food could have their own decorations.

I don't think it's tacky, but why does she think everyone won't eat? Does she think there won't be enough? Or does she think there will be people who aren't interested in eating Mexican?

Asian and Mexican go together, there are quite a few new trendy restaurants in my area that are Asian-Mexican fusion. Trust me, I thought I died and went to heaven when I ate a kimchi burrito for the first time.

I don't think it's tacky at all. But are you going to have servers? Even if it's drop-off, someone has to replenish the food and make sure that people don't take too much or cross contaminate dishes.

Can you hire someone to help with serving? Clearing plates? I'm not sure I'd to Mexican and Asian, maybe Mexican & Italian, or Mexican & American?

I would actually advice getting more than one type of food. Some people don't like Mexican food. I know, I know, weird right. But I know some in my own life who don't like it. I agree with Umgani to have the different types set up at different tables/stations. That would be fun!

The thing is she’s paying for most of the wedding and I can’t decide on my own. I have told her that we should hire people for the bar and for the buffet line but she said no her and her friends and other relatives would do it. What were trying to do is a buffet line with Mexican and Asian food. And we can’t do stations since we don’t have much space.

Well if you give the caterer the number of guests that have RSVP'd yes, they will know exactly how much food to make so there is enough for everyone Smiley smile tell mom in law not to worry! Trust them!

Do your guests know that some of them will be having "jobs" at your wedding? I can't tell if she's trying to save money or what, but what I find tacky is having regular people doing things that are better left to professionals.

Also, check with your venue about the bar. A lot of venues require you to hire a professional bartender, to avoid liability issues. They may not allow "Uncle Joe" to step behind the bar and start making drinks. There should be something about this in your venue contract.

Yes, they know. Even my future mom in law is working the day of the wedding. and she doesn’t mind. I have told her that we should hire people to man the bar and the buffet line but she said no. That I shouldn’t worry about it and just enjoy the wedding day. I don’t know what to feel, hahahaah I can’t feel thankful and I’m more worried hahaha
