Drop in Reception due to Covid-19

Anna, on March 26, 2020 at 12:38 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 7
We are looking to have our ceremony on our original wedding date May 30. But thinking of doing a come and go as you please reception in June similar to an open house. Is there any cons that you guys can think I’m missing on this? The biggest thing I’m thinking is the first dance with my dad. Is there a way we could still do this that anyone can think of? I don’t want to have to plan a full blown reception again just for a 3 minute dance.

I think another thing is logistics such as would you have a full meal or is it something more like appetizers ?

We would have a full meal similar to a graduation party

If that’s the case you’d have to have a significant amount extra.

I’m not concerned on food my biggest concern is missing out on some of the classic wedding items like the first dances and such are there ideas on ways to incorporate these still?

I think, if you're going to have something like an open house, you're not going to have a full reception, more of a house party.

This is a tough one. Maybe record the ceremony and the first dance and play it on a loop in a corner at the open house?

Hi Anna! You can absolutely still have those traditions! If you'd really like all of your guests to witness the first dance then I'd narrow the time frame of the party, so that even with a more casual feel there's still a group moment when everyone is there!

You could also include on your invitations that people are welcome to stop by from x time to y time, but that you'll be cutting the cake and doing the father daughter dance at X o'clock! That way your guests can plan accordingly.

I wouldn't overthink the logistics too much! You can have background music playing on speakers throughout the party and then have someone be the MC for 5 minutes and queue up a song for you and your dad. Smiley heart

Ah in that case you could always still keep a regular timeline and let people know beforehand so that if they want to arrive in time to see you do your first dance and whatever speeches and what not, they can.
