Drive time

How far is too far for people, such as the pastor, to drive for a ceremony?

That's really up to the pastor, but for guests I say up to an hour is a reasonable amount of time to drive for a wedding. As long as it's not in the middle of the week.

For me personally I didn't want anyone traveling over a hour, so my venue is like 30 to 40 mins away. But I've been to 3 weddings recently where one was a 2 hour drive, second was close to a hour, and the 3rd was 30 mins.

We can't find a venue close to us that can accommodate. Our wedding celebration is going to be about a week long to bond and enjoy each others company. All of my family will have to travel regardless. The closet one to me is 2.5 hours away. I found a beautiful venue that I have completely fallen in love with. It is the closest one and its 2 hours away. Our Pastir has agreed to marry us. I'm just so lost.

My wedding was about 2 hours away from most of my guests, and many of them came anyway. I think 2 hours isn't unreasonable.

I would ask your VIPs and see what they think about it too.

My wedding is within 30 to 1 hour and 15 minutes for most of my guests bc they are close by. I chose a venue that everyone can get to. However, I do have about 7 guests who are about 8 hours out or better to get to the wedding. Therefore they would have to fly out or drive. I think your average traveling time is about 2 hours.

That’s something to talk to the pastor about personally. Ours is actually going to fly here for the wedding (it’s a family friend).

This was an issue early on in my planning. I would say two things factor into the driving distance. I’m in Philadelphia and I can enter into three areas of jersey in less than 30 minutes. But, it can take me 40-50 minutes to drive other sections of philadelphia. So, of course, timing is the most important. I think anything more than 1 hour is a concern. However, if it’s easily accessible such as highway driving versus residential makes that 1 hour a totally different drive. But, typically for a pastor, it shouldn’t matter as they are usually paid for these service and are considered a part of the wedding party. Now, if this is a concern for between the ceremony and reception, I would definitely
try and keep it under 1 hour.

That is a question to ask the pastor. They all may have different stipulations for what they can do.

For guests, any amount of travel away from home is fine— it just becomes more of a destination wedding and you have to mentally prepare for the fact that it may affect attendance

We paid our pastor that officiated, so distance wasn't a huge concern since travel was included in the price. Our blocked hotel was 35 minutes from our venue, our venue was in a super rural area with no nearby hotels. But we provided guest transportation for everyone to and from the hotel.

I've been to weddings that were 1.5 hours away from me
