Drinks provided at Wedding Reception

Shannon, on October 27, 2016 at 9:55 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

What is a common for drinks that are provided at weddings for the guests?

Here are the options we are tossing between:

1- All you can drink all night

2- All you can drink for cocktail hour THEN Beer, Wine & Soda the rest of the night

3- Beer, Wine and Soda all night

Help please! Reasoning's also highly encouraged!

    Don't do #2 - It's confusing for guests.

Open bar all night long is probably the most common, and the best option if you can afford it, but Beer/Wine open all night is a perfectly reasonable option as well if you can't host a completely open bar.

ETA - So #1 is the best (fully hosted by you of course).

Assuming none of these involves a cash bar

1 is preferred- reasons obvious, 3 is acceptable - you're still providing something, don't do 2 - that is rude

If you have the budget for number 1, if you really can't afford it, option 3 is the best best.

Either 1 or 3, depending on your budget. Switching what is available confuses people and some folks have a hard time with mixing drinks, so whatever they have at cocktail hour is what they need to stay with all night. Some other options are a consumption bar (no cap) where you only pay for what is actually consumed, and adding one or two singnature cocktails to the beer/wine/soda package. Depends on what your venue and caterer offers, and how much you have in your budget to spend on alcohol.

If you can afford it, #1. If not, #3.

All the alcohol YOU can afford- ALL night long.

    Don't make changes.

I agree with the other ladies, 1 or 3. You want to make sure what you are offering is consistent throughout the night so it does not confuse guests.

To add to what's already been said, a compromise between 1 and 3 is to have signature cocktails. Beer, wine, and 1-2 signature drinks is really common in my area.

#1 is ideal, but if it's not in your budget #3 is fine too. #2 is way too confusing for guests. If you can add a couple of signature cocktails to #3, that would be good since there are some people out there who will not drink beer/wine.

We are having beer and wine all night long, with a champagne toast. No soda, just tea, lemonade, and water for those that aren't drinking. We might add a signature drink once we have our final numbers and know if we can afford it. Beer and wine is most common in our area.

#2 would just confuse and disappoint me. I prefer liquor (hate beer but don't mind wine) so randomly being cut off would be weird. Of course #1 is the best option but #3 works fine too!

Options 1 and 3 are both great! I'd skip option 2 just because it's confusing and disappointing as a guest Smiley sad

Go with either 1 or 3 depending on what you can afford.

    1 or 3.

2 is confusing, disappointing and time consuming for the BT's.

OP ONLY IF you can afford it do one...if not do 3...or as PP said compromise and do beer, wine and signature drinks along with the non alcoholic options...you're attempting to provide alcohol, which is good enough for me

How about open bar beer and wine all night and then to Signature cocktails which are available for cocktail hour and the reception.

Definitely either option 1 or 3, and if you do #3 and can afford to add signature cocktails that would be nice too, but if you can't beer and wine is definitely better than a cash bar. Just no to #2, that's a guaranteed way to annoy your guests!
