Drink responsibly on menus? Yay or Nay?

Jennifer, on August 10, 2011 at 10:36 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

Hi ladies...I'm working on my menus and program wording to send to the stationer and need your advice Smiley smile

I've heard of adding drink responsibly on menus but I want to find a better way of saying it. Does this actually go on the menu or on the program? Is it rude to even suggest "don't get drunk and embarrass yourself and ruin my wedding?" lol

What did you do?

Hope all of your planning is going well. Thanks in advance for any feedback Smiley smile

I think it is a good idea... I have never heard of it... but I think it's a great idea... and I don't even think you need to change the wording...

Honestly, I think the ones not otherwise inclined to drink responsibly wouldn't change due to a statement on a menu.

I wouldn't....it sounds too commercial, and I don't know that anyone would really change their habits based on it. And I've never seen it on a menu, except at a restaurant.

Nay. It sounds cheesy to me.

I have a question: do you add the bar options in the menu??

I wouldn't add it. I'm sure all your friends and family are intelligent people that KNOW about drinking responsibly and like 2d Bride and Celia said - those that aren't, aren't going to just because it was stated on the menu.

No matter if you put this on you menus or not, if someone leaves your reception, legally over the limit, you (and your venue) can be held legally responsible.

I hope that YOU have GREAT insurance. All it takes is one dumbass drunk driver to leave your reception, hit someone, tell the cop where they had their last drink, and your financial future is over.

Ya, I'd be a bit off put, not necessarily offended if I saw it on the menu.

Thanks all. I forgot to mention above that the town we are getting married in is known for really strict cops, and we just wanted to give some type of thought to the fact that no one should be drunk driving afterwards + the hotel is about 10 minutes away for those out of town.

@Dena - I'm not adding the bar options because it's too much I think. But I am asking the venue to have some type of menu at the bar, so people aren't constantly asking.

I wouldnt I would find it really rude if i read that on a menu at a wedding. says something about the way you view your guests. I understand that of coarse you dont want anyone being a drunk ass and wrecking your day but you have to have some level of faith in your guest that they know how to behave them selves

Thank you all! I have decided NOT to add it Smiley smile In our closing remarks at the end of the reception, we will just make an announcement about driving safely and extra rooms at the hotel if needed. Thanks girls
