Drink question on rsvp card

Capri, on February 4, 2019 at 8:59 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
Hello,

We are providing all of the liquor, beer, wine, soda, and water to our bartenders and we are considering putting this drink options section on our RSVP card. Is this tacky? Guests would be more than welcome to have anything but we’d hate to buy 50 bottles of wine if only 5 guests plan on having a glass or only 10 bottles of vodka and running out midway through the night. We figured this may give us a better idea of what we need to serve our guests appropriately.

We appreciate any advice - thank you!

I've honestly never seen this done, but I don't think this is tacky - especially if you are planning on hosting an open bar. I've seen people add song requests on their invites, but if you're on the fence about including this question in your actual invitation, you could always add it on your wedding website.

As a guest, I would be confused if I received this. I would attend the wedding thinking that I need to drink what I said I would drink on the RSVP.

You should research if and where you can return liquor in your state. Some states and/or vendors allow this. So maybe you can buy more than enough to be safe then return what's unopened? Or you just buy more than enough and save the leftover liquor & wine for future house parties?

Your bartenders should be able to help you figure out how much you'll need to buy of each kind.

I don’t think it’s *tacky*, but I also think it’s too vague to be super helpful in bottle count — I might drink beer wine or liquor depending on my mood, but the deciding factor will mostly depend on your ultimate selection. I’d probably end up checking all three boxes. I’d love a beer, but ONLY if you have a good IPA. If not that, I might go for a cocktail, but the only liquor I’m interested in is tequila. My interest in wine varies by selection too.

S o, I feel like a better bet is to find a store that buys back unopened bottles, and just buy extra of everything , and return what’s left after the wedding (just make sure your bartenders don’t open bottles indiscriminately). We were able to put together a good spread just based on knowin what we typically see our guests drinking most of (we knew we had a big craft beer, red wine, and bourbon crowd! So we seriously stocked up on that stuff).

I don't think it's tacky necessarily, but I've never seen it done. I agree, if anywhere it may be best on a wedding website. I also agree with a previous poster, that I'd feel like I'd have to stick with drinking whatever I said I would. But I also can't predict what I want to drink before that day either. Some nights I really wanna let loose Smiley laugh and some nights I just want water...I don't really know how I'm feeling until that day.

I say ask the professionals how many of each thing you should be buying to make sure you have enough of everything. They know best. And maybe buy from somewhere you can return any unopened bottles, so you aren't stuck with a bunch of something after the wedding.

I agree with others that you just need to find a place that will accept returns. The way you have it is not necessarily "tacky" but I think it could be confusing. I'm usually a wine drinker so that's what I would mark on the card. If I got to your wedding and felt like ordering a rum and Diet, I'd either feel that I wasn't allowed or feel bad for doing so.

Thank you all so much for the responses! I could see where the confusion would occur and I am going to remove it. Thank you all so much! Smiley smile

I've never seen this before, and I'm not sure how effective it would be. For a lot of people, it depends on their mood, the weather, the atmosphere, types of wine & beer available, and what food is served, to decide on what they drink. So they wouldn't know until the wedding day.

That’s not bad at all. I think it’s useful and would get the information across.
