Drink Calculator?

April, on May 8, 2020 at 9:06 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 4

My fiance and I are hosting a DIY drink station at our wedding as we're catering ourselves. We will buy a bunch of sodas, liquor, and a couple kegs of beer, along with champagne for the toasts. We will have cups to mix drinks, garnishes like cherries, some grenadine and other mixers, etc so people can make their own mixed drinks. We have a guest list of 160, 20 are kids.

I found an alcoholic drink calculator online for beer and liquor, but what about sodas? We're planning on keeping it fairly simple... coke, diet coke, sprite, ginger ale, orange soda, plus we'll have drink dispensers of lemonade and iced tea. How many of each soda should we purchase?

I wasn't able to find a drink calculator that seemed accurate for non-alcoholic drinks. I think this depends largely on your crowd and how many guests will be drinking non-alcoholic beverages entirely and how many people will be drinking mixed drinks vs beer and wine. We estimated 1 non-alcoholic drink every 2 hours per guest, so 250 drinks for our 4 hour reception, we had a ton left over.

Some people like sodas as mixers in alcohol and others like it straight. It depends on your guests and what they like. Figure 2 drinks per person per hour.. You can always take home leftovers.

Ask your store (both spirit and grocery) if they will do returns on unopened bottles or cans. If yes I would go with https://bigredliquors.com/drink-calculator/
They include soda and water, but tend to go overboard with the wine
Another good method is to batch make popular drinks from recipes so you know the count and dont have 20 different people sitting there making the same drink taking half an hour, instead the flow is better since its pour/grab and go. Also along those lines is cans of soda. I cant tell you enough of how long I had to wait for a dang cup of Sprite cause multiple people like it in everything and had to share a liter. Like others say its normally 2 drink per person per hour, but you know your crowd.
