I am going dress shopping for the first time this weekend and I’m SO excited!!! I’ve read on here that you should go in with an open mind and try on all types of silhouettes so that’s what I’m going to do! In the meantime I would love to see everyone’s dresses!! Seeing happy brides/brides to be in THE dress gives me life!! So if you feel like sharing I’d love to see all your dresses and hear about your experience/how you knew it was THE ONE!

That's so exciting!! I'm going in March, so I understand how you feel!!!

I would suggest to not try on TOO many silhouettes, and try on the ones you KNOW you like best, first. That way you don't get too overwhelmed with the different styles!

    Good luck finding 'the one'!!

How exciting!!! Dress shopping can be so much fun, especially if you go with the right people. I went went my mom and sisters to a bridal salon and loved the dresses I tried on! They all felt very bridal, but nothing called to me as THE ONE. So I went home empty handed. I looked around online at other styles, and one dress kept coming back to me. It was so simple and understated, which is very much my style. And it is the perfect blank canvas for me to style as I want. I am thinking I will go bare shoulders with a mid length veil for the ceremony and a bridal sweater (maybe with a gemstone belt) for our reception. The wedding is in December in GA, so I will have to be prepared for both hot and cold weather. Pictures aren't the best, but our hall mirror is the only semi full length mirror we have haha!

My first appointment I tried on one of each silhouette first (ball gown, a-line, mermaid, fit and flare, sheath) to see what I liked. It was nice narrowing down to one or 2 silhouettes. I never was actually sure when it was the one. There was a lot of second guessing and even a time where I went and retried but I know it’s beautiful and it makes me look great lol

This is such a fun and exciting time! I will say, if there is a certain look you feel like gravitating for, don't think you HAVE to try on a ton of different shapes or details. Start with what you think you love and go from there! I knew exactly what I wanted—a spaghetti strap ball gown with a v-neck and lots of detail in the skirt. And that's exactly what I got Smiley smile

I went to one bridal store and knew, barring not finding anything I liked, that I'd buy my dress that day since we only had 4 months (I had to pay a rush fee as well). I went alone because I don't live anywhere near my MOH or mom and there was no one else local I would have wanted. If I had more time I probably would have planned a special trip that included others, but I was honestly so glad it was just me! I got to pick exactly what I wanted with no other opinions swaying me.

Thanks for the advice! I think I will do the same. I like all silhouettes and I’m not sure which will look best on my body. Good idea to try one of each right from the start to narrow it down!

Your dress looks beautiful on you! You obviously had a strong sense of what you liked/wanted going in, and you were right! I wish I had that! When I look at dresses I find myself liking all different silhouettes

I'm so excited for you! I definitely agree that you should go in with an open mind, but still be aware of what you're comfortable with. For me, I thought I knew exactly what kind of dress I wanted (simple, flowy, A-line, lace), but what I liked about each dress I tried on was actually some sparkle that I kept seeing peeks of and just wanted more. I thought the dresses looked pretty and that they all looked nice, but it just felt like something was missing.

My shop attendant was great in that she really helped me pin-point what I liked in each dress and then led me over to a dress that she thought I would like but I never would have picked out on my own because it was a huge ballgown. But lo and behold, I put it on and just didn't want to take it off (plus my favorite song started playing the background)! Now I just need to figure out what kind of bustle and how to get to my venue in this dress haha Smiley smile

Thank you! It was honestly what sold me on it. I get a little more modesty on the front, but then the back is like WOOOO!

I found my dream dress when I was looking at spring 2020 bridal collections online. I went to two stores in NYC (Kleinfeld's and Vera Wang) and tried my favorite on last. Everything else was pretty (sometimes hilariously ill-fitting) but when I tried it on I cried. I just felt so relieved that the dress I fell in love with made me even happier when I had it on.

I wanted something like this. But trying on a few ballgowns made me realized that this cut wasn’t meant for my body type. I bought a sheath mermaid which I hated and thought it wasn’t for me, but I was wrong. Take your shapewear and heels if you have. Also have a hair band too, so your hair doesn’t cover the back of the dress when you take a picture of it. My suggestion is not to buy before you slept it over at least a day. Bridal stores tends to lure you to “buy today, and get % off”. Don’t fall into it.

    Hello!

You should definitely go into wedding dress shopping with an open mind! I always wanted to get a mermaid dress or fitted dress because I just love how it hugs your body and as a petite bride I thought that was the dress I would buy even before I went dress shopping. I always read online to stay away from ballgowns if you’re short or petite. Well, literally I feel in love with a ballgown dress and it was the last dress I tried on that the assistant picked for me and boy am I happy she did! Sometimes what we think looks best on us doesn’t or it doesn’t feel as special as “the one”. Also, it’s okay to not buy the dress the same day. I slept on my decision and went back 2 days later to make sure I still love the dress. Hope you enjoy the dress shopping experience once you get there!Dresses Dresses Dresses!! 8Dresses Dresses Dresses!! 9
