Dresses Again

Veronica, on July 11, 2019 at 12:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
I know I posted before about not liking the flower girl dresses, but now the concern is that the dresses were supposed to be altered this week, but so far nothing has been done. Their mom was supposed to take them to her friend to have altered. Not sure if the friend is a seamstress or not. I would take them, but they live 8 hours away. I would deal with not liking how they look if they properly fit the girls. My mom thinks we should buy back up dresses just in case and if we don't need them we could return them. I am not sure that is a good idea, but since our wedding is only 9 days away I am growing more concerned by the day. Their mom told me last week they would be done this week and it is already Thursday so that is slightly alarming. I don't plan on reaching out to their until Saturday to see if there is an update. Saturday is 1 week until the wedding. At that point I think something should be done. My fiance thinks if they don't fit by the time of rehearsal then we can get new dresses and my fmil wants to alter them at rehearsal if they are not altered beforehand. What are your thoughts?

I think you need to let this go. It takes 15 minutes to alter a child’s dress if the person knows what they’re doing. Let their mother handle it. Even in the last post, the dresses weren’t falling off the girls. Kids don’t need to have dresses that are form fitting and literally no one except you is going to remember these flower girl dresses.

Unless they're falling off or too tight there's really no reason to bother altering a flowers girls dress. They're not going to be reused, and nobody but you will remember the details. It's not a good use of your time and money.

I would let it go. I think the mothers will handle it.

The dresses were pinned in the photos that I posted so of course they were not falling off the girls. I spoke with the seamstress that is doing my dress and she said to properly take the dresses in you'd have to take the entire dress apart and take only the top in since the bottom is supposed to be flowly and poofy. If you just sew right down the sides of the dresses that will make the bottom of the dress less poofy.

I still think you need to let this go. No one is going to take an entire flower girl dress apart to take it in. They are children who are going to wear this dress once and toss it in a costume bucket/donation bag and never worry about it again. You are the only one who is going to care about this.

Don't stress it! This is a very small detail in the big picture of things.

They are about 2-3 sizes too big currently so they are literally swimming in them.

Then just buy new ones. It's a waste of effort to take in kids clothes so many sizes.

Even if they're too big - it literally does not matter. These children are part of the wedding for about 30 seconds and a few pictures. Just let this go and stop micro-managing.

Amazon prime! They have cute dresses and can be delivered in two days. If you don't have prime join for free get your free two day shipping and then cancel within so many days. Boom done!

That is the back up plan. My fiance has prime, but he won't order them so my mom will since she has prime. I just don't want to hurt my fmil's feelings, but if they don't fit then I don't see how the girls could wear them. I also don't think she would have time to alter them the night of rehearsal because dinner is still about 8-8:30 then the kids will go back to the hotel to sleep so even if she does alter them that night we would have no clue if they would fit until the morning of the wedding.

I would let your Mom order the dresses. If I was on your situation I would tell me fmil thank you but we are going a different route that way no one has to worry with it and we can move on to a different task.

That's what we are doing. The girls' mom has no idea if her friend has even started to work on the dresses because she hasn't talked to her. My fiance agreed on ordering dresses as a back up plan just in case.
