What is the length on a wedding dress supposed to be? Is it ok to be a little too long?

Depends on your height and/or what shoes you are going to wear. You don't want to be tripping over it/dragging it on the ground.

There's no "supposed to be" as far as how it looks; that is a completely personal decision. But there are real, practical reasons why you don't want a dress too long. You, your partner, and/or your guests will be stepping on a too-long dress all day long.

Make sure you don’t trip on it. Whatever length you want it to be.

Thank you. That makes a lot of sense.

Generally, your dress is altered based on the shoes you’re wearing so it just grazes the floor. Dresses often come longer so that they can be hemmed accordingly. If it’s too long, you may trip on it, and others may step on it as well.

Too long in the front is different from having a train in the back. I would recommend trying your dress on with the shoes you are going to wear. If you feel like you could possibly step on your dress while walking or dancing, go to a seamstress and get it hemmed and/or bustled.

Also keep in mind if you're going to be walking down the aisle on carpet or tile/wood. When I got my dress altered at the seamstress, it was perfect. I glided across her tile floor. But when the day came and I was walking down the carpeted aisle of the chapel, I had to practically kick my dress away with each step like I was marching in the army because the fabric on fabric friction made my dress snag and I almost tripped at least twice while trying to keep my calm and let none be the wiser about it!
