Dress Woes Part 2

Mrs.a, on August 26, 2020 at 7:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 25

Continued...

So Tonight I sat down with FH and asked him if he really liked the dress we picked out together and he asked why. So I told him I couldn’t help but get the image of a China Doll out of my head. I asked him what he really liked about it and honestly he said he couldn’t remember exactly what it looked like anymore so I pulled up a pic 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️😂

So the whole time I’ve been stressed asking for his opinion on another dress and he couldn’t remember what the dress we picked out even looked like even though he kept stating he preferred it 🙄😂

He shared what he liked about it and I told him what I like and don’t like (it feels very whimsical and youthful and I feel like a little girl or a doll in it, although I love how it feels and flows)...

So long story short, he said he understood and that he likes the other dress too and said to go ahead and order it so we can compare. The good news is I can return either dress and we have just a glimmer of time left to make a decision. For those who didn’t follow the original post...

Dress One (this is the dress we first chose together)

Dress 2 (I just ordered and should be here in a week)

Both are really gorgeous. I think you'll need to think about which one you like better on and which vibes more with the wedding, but you really can't go wrong

I’m sorry, you lost me at “China Doll”. Please be careful with that terminology. https://www.sfgate.com/entertainment/amp/Sensitivity-training-around-China-doll-2825152.php

China is also derived from the country of origin of porcelain which is how china dolls (I.e. porcelain dolls) and china dinnerware got its name. I did not mean the latter and I’m sorry I did not know such terminology existed in such a context and did not mean to imply anything racial or sexist by it.

"Many people are confused as to the difference between 'china' and 'porcelain.' The two terms describe the same product. The term 'china' comes from its country of origin, and the word 'porcelain' comes from the Latin word 'porcella,' meaning seashell. It implies a product which is smooth, white, and lustrous."

The first porcelain used for vessels was made of kaolin clay combined with granite in China—hence the familiar name—many centuries ago.

I'm so glad you talked to him and agreed on a plan!

Also, I was given some of those dolls when I was a child and, while I think the dress looks great on you, now that you mention it... their tiny dresses had that exact same neckline.

Yes! I’m glad we can get on the same page as well. It may seem silly to stress over something such as a dress but we’ve been both dealing with so much already that making this special for both of us is so important.

I’m glad you can relate, understand and visualize what I meant by china doll (I.e. porcelain doll) from the original etymology rather than a derogatory adaptation of the word.
