Dress too tight?!

Lyndsey, on April 28, 2012 at 8:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 10

I went to my final dress fitting last night and all of the alterations look fine, but it's too tighto n top. It zips, but it took the seamstress and my mom to zip it. It's strapless, so I had it taken in so it wasn't loose. I wanted to feel support, but I couldn't even take a deep breath with it on. I had it on for about ten minutes and could breathe shallow breaths, and I didn't feel light headed or anything, but it wasn't very comfortable.

It's now too late to get it taken out any and they said they'd have to charge me because they think I've gained a few pounds since the original fitting. I can't prove I haven't and there's no room in the budget for another alteration - especially one this close to the wedding.

I'm told it's supposed to fit that way since it's strapless and it'll loosen the longer I wear it, but I'm scared I might bust a seam or feel faint or something. Does anyone else have this issue? I'm cutting carbs this week, but I doubt it'll make a big difference.Thoughts?

You can lose a couple pounds per week be making sure you eat very healthy and staying around 1200 calories per day, its a pain in the butt but you can download myfitnesspal if you have a smartphone to track your calorie intake, drink plenty of water, and get as much exercise as you can over the next week..try not too stress too much, and watch the snacking..it is possible to loose a couple pounds before the wedding....hang in there!

The good news is that the dress is tight around my breasts, but flows out, so I can still breathe from my gut if need be. I'm just a big worrier naturally and I'm worried I'll pass out. I keep telling myself women wore corsets for a long time. If they can do that, so can I.

I had the same problem last time I had my dress on. I didn't have it taken in, but it's VERY tight on top. I, too, was unable to get a nice deep breath. I actually popped one of the buttons open when I tried to take a deep breath. I had gain exactly 2.5 since the last time I had it on, so I've been trying to cut back just enough to let in some air.

My SIL told me that her's loosened up as she wore it. I sure hope mine does a tad, or I'll be fainting at the altar :s

Can't say without seeing the dress. But I remember my cousin's dress was too tight around the bust and she popped some stitches right before the ceremony. The dress ended up hanging a little too low and you could see her bra :/

Try taking some water pills. I'm sure people will say it's not safe or whatever, but breathing is importantSmiley smile

My dress is a bit tight around the top also.

I havent gained any weight. Infact, I have lost weight and my pants keep getting loser even though I just bought a smaller size a few weeks ago.

How ever the girls must be doing their own thing ... and they arent exactly tiny.

I tested that I can sit in my dress and I can breathe. I just cant breathe very well.

Hopefully like you said, the dress will losen a bit while wearing it

    Hi Lindsey,

You said it was a final fitting the seamstress should loosen it a little bit without charge.

For me my final fitting is the fitting after I did all the works in that day if everything is fine and your happy you can take the gown with you or leave it with me if you want me to steam or press the gown for you. On the other hand, if for any reason this fitting you’re not completely happy on the areas that you told to get it fixed and I charged you for these work I will fix it for you to the proper fitting that you like and you and I agreed upon on your first fitting without extra charge.

During this fitting you are happy with my work and my work is done this is in fact your final fitting. In a week or too you want to come back and tried on your gown again and you found out that the gown is to tight or too big at this time I will charged you because you change since the last time I saw you.

    Part 2

Even then it is depend on much work I have to do I may not charge you extra you said it’s too tight on top that is the bad spot to be too tight you don’t want any rolls showing on the front and on the back of your gown.

It is not too late to take it out she can do it that just and BC excused.

If you feel that uncomfortable breathing you should have it fix (no but!)

Cut calories the in the next week to 1200 and get some exercise in. You would be amazed at the difference 2-3 pounds makes.

@Judith - When I bought my dress it fit perfectly. All I had done was a hem and bustle. When I picked up my dress it was tight and if I wanted any other work done it would be at additional cost.

Its not their fault my dress got tighter. They didnt do anything to cause it. Thats my fault.

I dont know if they took her dress in or if she maybe gained a pound or 2 or if its just water weight ... but like I said, thats not their fault so they will probably charge to do the work that needs to be done.
