Dress too poofy?

Marissa, on October 30, 2019 at 7:56 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 6
I love my dress on the top. I never saw myself as a ball gown girl (it’s not really ball gown, somewhere between ball gown and A-line). Last night I tried it on just to make sure it still fits and I’m feeling very meh about the bottom. I love the detailing on it. But I want to be a bit more free. Has anyone altered their dress to make it less poofy? What was your experience like?

I would take your dress to a seamstress and let them take a look at it. Depending on the structure of the dress, they should be able to remove some if not all of the tulle that creates the ballgown look.

My skirt wast super poofy but I did have webbing taken out. My seamstress did ask if I wanted to remove some layers of toole. So when the time comes to do your alterations, your seamstress can take our some layers should you want her to.

I asked this same question a couple of days ago! My dress is also between A-line and ballgown and the bottom is so heavy and cumbersome. I'm going to see if they can take one or both layers of the crinoline out when I do alterations. Otherwise I imagine I will be very hot and unable to have fun dancing.

Usually the seamstress can just remove layers of tulle to decrease the poof. Otherwise you can wear a smaller petticoat/hoop skirt under your dress. Making the poofiness less is a lot easier than making it more.

You can test out at home if you want to take some layers out of the bottom of the dress by “pinning” some of the under-tulle down between your legs and adjusting the skirt overtop. That way you can see what it would look like with less “filling”.

I know exactly what you mean. Every dress I would like always had the poofy bottom and I knew I didn't want that. The top to the middle were perfect and then the bottom always seemed to ruin the dresses. The bridal shop I was in told me they can remove a lot of layers under the poof so it wouldn't be as poofy so I assume that is an option. Luckily I was able to find the perfect dress without the poof but if your not loving it I'm sure they can fix it for you.
