Dress too poofy!!!

Rachel, on April 22, 2021 at 2:41 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13
Hi everyone!

So I purchased this dress and I’ve been having some dress regret! I really love the top and the hip area, but I feel like the bottom is WAY too poofy for me. There is so much tulle and I think it poofs out too much. It might look better when I get it hemmed and in my size, but I still feel like the shape flares too much. There is just a lot of fabric at the bottom! Has anyone else had these doubts? Or has altered their fit and flare dress to be less poofy? Is this something you think I might be able to fix in alterations? HelppppDress too poofy!!! 1

I don’t think it’s too poofy at all! It is very clearly huge on you so I think when it is your size you will be more comfortable. A very beautiful dress.

First: you clearly loved your dress when you tried it on...so chill out until it comes in (in your size)! If you still have doubts at your 1st fitting, ask the seamstress to remove some layers. But I honestly don’t think you’ll want to!

You’re welcome 😊 Also, I love the color! My gown is Ivory (because that’s the one I tried on and I was concerned about ordering a color I couldn’t try on)...but I keep having second thoughts about the color (I love love love the color of your dress) 😅 Doubts will happen no matter what I guess 🤷🏻‍♀️

Your seamstress should easily be able to remove some of the tulle to make it less poofy. But it is beautiful!

Thank you! I think I’m still gonna end up taking a layer or two out. I’ve found pictures of other women in the same dress on their wedding days and I think it still looks a little too flared for my me. I’ve lost a lot of sleep over worrying about if the dress will look good or if I can shape it to what I want 😥

When you asked the professional, wat did the alterations person say about removing the puffiness?

I worked in bridal for three years. What makes the skirt poofy is the crinoline under the skirt- taking a couple layers of it out is a super simple and common alteration. Some people add crinoline to make a dress more poofy, so those wedding day pics you're seeing could have had the dress altered to be more poofy. Hope this calms your nerves!

Thank you so much! That does make me less anxious! I think the dress has a layer underneath that has wiring to hold the flared out shape. So I’m hoping that by removing that, the dress will be a little more relaxed and not so big at the bottom! Thank you for you comment that puts me more at ease ☺️

That would be crinoline! It looks like there's probably a couple layers - typically the recommendation is to leave one layer so the dress doesn't lose its structure, but taking the extra layers out should fix it, no problem 😊

I agree with the others that I don't think it would be too difficult to remove some layers to make it less boofy at the bottom if that's what you want, but I actually think it creates a beautiful shape on you!

Of course, you should absolutely do what makes you feel that you look your best, but just to reassure you it looks gorgeous how it is, honestly.

Doesn’t look that puffy to me. When you get your size then decide I can see them being able to take out a layer but it’s not as poofy as some dresses I’ve seen.

Here are some more flattering pictures of the dress. After reading all of your comments, I do feel like I was worrying for nothing! It isnt as poofy as I originally feared and your kind words have made me feel better about my dress decision! When I do go pick up my dress, I’ll decide then if I wanna take out a layer or two of tulle. it might not even be necessary once it’s in my size! You all have put me at ease and I really appreciate all your feedback!!! I might actually be able to sleep tonight haha
