Dress Timeline

Hello Brides,

So I have a question, I haven't bought my wedding dress nor tried on dresses yet. I am getting married in October 2022. I know because of the pandemic, bridal stores either take a long time to get dresses in or you have to buy off the floor. The reason why I haven't looked or tried on dresses yet, is because I just got approved to have a breast reduction (I've been trying to get it done for about 4 years). Finally it was approved today! Yay! But my surgery isn't until September 27, this year. I'll be wrapped up for a few weeks. I'm worried that I won't find my dress in time.Has anyone else gone through the same kinda thing? Should we move the wedding date? Or wait and see if I can find anything?
FYI: I'm going from roughly the size 36DDD to 36B (I'm 4'11" with a short torso). Thank you ladies for any advice Smiley smile

Hi! I'm also getting married October 2022 and have not looked/tried on dresses - My goal is to start searching in January and find the one by February to give myself enough time for alterations/shipping/etc.

Also, I got a breast reduction as well (yeeears ago) - if you have any questions let me know!

Yay that's so exciting! Being a larger lady myself, I know how challenging it is to just.. live life when they are constantly getting in the way.

SO. I was very worried about delays and went shopping in June of last year for my September of this year wedding.

The truth is, SOME dresses take a full 12 months and there are delays on some fabrics which can mean production is slowed. But, my dress was supposed to take 6 months and I thought with Christmas would take longer. It ended up being about 6 weeks early and I ended up having to store it for 6 months.

My sister bought her dress in February for a November wedding, it came in, she hated it, went shopping again and bought a new dress in July and had it in time.

So, there will be plenty of options that you can get in time - and there are always off the rack and sample options too, so don't panic.

I think if I were you, I would still go and look. Just to get an idea of what is available and what kind of things you like. I don't mean the silhouette or neckline, necessarily, as that is likely to change with your reduction. But I do mean things like, embellishment, lace, various textures etc. It may turn out that you thought you loved lace or sleeves and actually... despise them on you. Or that you thought you wanted pure white but much prefer a champagne or ivory or moscato or something.

I’m getting married October 2021 and went dress shopping in December 2020, didn’t find anything, went again in February 2021 and found the dress! Ordered it then and it arrived mid-June.

You definitely have more than enough time even if you start October-November. Covid is pretty much under control now so things are opening back up - I would assume it wouldn't take as long now.

No problem. You really should start looking at gowns by 8 months out, and purchase no later than 6-7 for a Maggie Sottero or other designer, from their own website, after all covid problems, and most have plenty of dresses available for fast shipment after that. You have plenty of time. In the last 2 years many have been ordering earlier . Not realizing that if your order goes in 6 months earlier they will ship at 3 months, regardless. So do not rush. Feb, when you must order, is a long way away.

We're also getting married in October 2022. I was told by two different boutiques to try and order 10-12 months before just in case covid stuff could still mess things up. I would think you still have time to look even after you give yourself time to recover.

Oooooh you should definitely get on it now some dresses take maybe 6 weeks to 6 months for a dress especially if it needs to be ordered. And some dresses that you may like can be discontinued or if you like different colors styles dress fitting you need to make that you have plenty of time. Mines is next year also in June appt was in march got my dress back May of this yr. But its was being discontinued as well you need to now find your beautiful wedding dress

I'm also getting married October 2022 and haven't started trying on dresses. I have my eye on certain styles and browse dresses online to get an idea of what I like, but I'm looking to loose weight before the wedding (like, a few sizes down) and I know that will affect alterations, so I'm holding off on trying on for now. I think you'll be fine looking early next year. I have a friend who got married last September (during Covid) and her dress came in and alterations were done within a few weeks.
