Dress straps too big, quick fix?

Laura, on October 28, 2019 at 12:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
So I got my Azazie custom sized dress in and it fits me great! Only problem is the shoulders. The straps are just a touch too long and I don't have time to get them professionally altered. (My fiance and I are a one car household, so I have to round up someone to drive me there that isn't him, plus having a day off to do it, plus the wedding is this Saturday.) It's not the end of the world, but is there a good way to quickly shorten them at home that won't look bad for the camera?

I like the off shoulder look on you! But, I could see why you want them altered cause they aren't meant to be off shoulder straps. I don't know where you live, but I know where I am you can ask the seamstress to come to the house to fix it at home - or at least pick it up from your house. Maybe there's something similar where you live?

It's supposed to be off the shoulder, but the decorative outer straps are drooping below the elastic support straps underneath. They just need to be where that understrap isn't showing. Does that make sense? They're just a bit loose, they're supposed to hit at the apex of my shoulder instead of drooping.

That dress is beautiful on you! I'm also ordering my wedding dress from Azazie soon Smiley smile

Could you either remove the understrap altogether or just sew it directly to the inside of the strap (or maybe even fabric glue if you can't sew)? If you still need them a little tighter, you may be able to get some white fabric to also sew/glue onto the inside of the straps to close that gap a little bit!

Won't Azazie cover alterations costs up to $50 if it's their fault?

The problem is getting it to an alterations place before Saturday that will also have it done before Saturday. The earliest I can get there is Wednesday, and that's if I take my fiance with me! We only have one car and I cant drive. Otherwise I'd have to wait for a friend to be able to take me and that would be waaaaay too late.

Ahhh! I think do what Amber said above, which is to sew the understrap to your outer strap? And if that doesn't work I'd completely remove the understrap completely unless you absolutely need them for support. Your back is a corset, right? It may be enough support if you get rid of the understrap?

I might try to get it into alterations Wednesday and see if they can shorten the straps in time. I'll just need to use some of my copious amazon boxes to hide it from the fiance.

On that note does anyone know how long that kind of alteration might take? It's the only alteration I need.

The problem is the strap is meant to be taut, and if I just pin it or tack it to the under strap it'll end up bunching. I was thinking of just folding it under and sewing it that way, but when I went to see what that would look like, it has a solid piece of lace that would get messed up and it would probably photograph badly.

The more I try to figure this out the more I'm freaking out. I know I should've had it ordered sooner, but I can't change that now.
