Dress storage

Arianna, on October 29, 2019 at 9:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 12
Hi! I bought my dress at a sample sale and I brought it home on 9/21/18. My wedding isn’t until 4/24/21 and I’m getting nervous that it will start to discolor if I keep it in the plastic bag (not sure if it’s acid free). From what I’ve been reading it looks like I need to purchase either an acid free bag or a cloth bag. I’m looking for recommendations on safe storage bags if you have one! Also, the only dark area I can store the dress is in my closet, any tips for not stretching out the straps? Thanks in advance😊

Is there any way the store could save it for you? I bought it the same way and they just kept it to make sure nothing happens to it at least until I do the fitting. Maybe you could ask them directly and if they can’t, at least tell you best ways to keep it perfect?

First thing, take it out of the plastic bag lol. But i got mine in Dec and its still good. I bought a black dress back on etsy and have it in the back of my closet. I take it out ever few weeks to check on it. But to discolor will take years, so i wouldn't worry.

    9/21/18 or 19?

Are you going to be able to fit that 👰👗 by April 2021?

I ordered my 👰👗 in May of last year and covered it with a Belk bag and Black Trash Bag (from the bottom, Strings around the Hanger) to keep DH from seeing it.

I’ll have to call them and see if I could take it back there. It’s currently in my FH closet so it really can’t stay there much longer😂

That was a typo! I meant to put 2019. I’m sure hoping I will fit into it. I’ve lost about 80 pounds since 2016 and I’m at the point of maintaining so I should be all good. Luckily, there is plenty of room to let it out in case I gain a couple pounds back😊

The store you bought it from did not give you a cloth/fabric bag when you purchased? They should have. I would take it out of the plastic and buy a long garment bag for it. Wedding dress boutiques may sell you one that is made specifically for wedding gowns since your boutique did not provide you with one.

Use the little hanging loops attached to the inside of the dress for hanging. Even better, if you can store it flat (laying down), then that's not an issue.

Ditch that plastic bag!! Your dress could yellow from it over that period of time. I bought a fabric garment bag on Amazon for only $12. It's black too, which is great.

Hi! I am also getting married on April 24, 2021 and purchased my dress two days ago. I will be picking it up in 6 weeks.
The consultant told me to get a garment bag otherwise it will be in plastic.
