Dress shopping

Nicole, on February 3, 2020 at 4:08 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

I am getting married October 2020 & I can't decided when to go dress shopping. I am still needing to lose about 17 more pounds so I am trying to push it out as far as I can. Any idea when I should book my appointment ?

I'd book soon just because you don't want to limit yourself on dresses to pick from

Go now!! When you find your dress, you can always order a size that fits now and then when you lose the weight it can be taken in.

But honestly go now. I went end of August and my dress was finished a couple of weeks ago. They need time to make the dress and ship back to you, and then you'll need time for alterations.

Agree with PP, I would start looking ASAP. Gowns can take 6-8 months to come in and you will still need time for alterations.

I found my dress beginning of January and it won't be here till the beginning of May. That leaves some time for alterations with our wedding in August. I wasn't aware dresses took so long to ship or that alterations are almost always needed. I would give yourself 6-8months! Good Luck finding the one!

Like others have said, I'd go ASAP! You'll need time for alterations, and the seamstress can take in your dress if you lose more weight.

    Hi Nicole,
As the other girls have said, you need to go now, the dresses can take months to come in, you'll need plenty of time to allow for the alterations, and don't worry, most dresses can be altered to 1 size down!

You should start shopping now! I got married October 2019 and purchased my dress in January 2019. They recommend ordering your dress about 10 months before your wedding to ensure it arrives in time for you to have it altered. You will have time to lose the rest of your weight while you wait for your dress to come in & before you have it altered.

I would start shopping now you can always get something that is right now and loose later and get it altered. There are some dresses that are an absolute pain or really expensive to get altered. My dress is taking 7 months to get here so I’m happy I started soon. You can also maybe get a dress that is lace up in the back where it can go up or down a size without any alterations at all! Good luck

I'm getting married September 5, I bought my dress early November. It seemed really early to me but I was told 7 months for it to come in (sottero-midgley dress). I wasn't where I wanted to be weight Wise either but that's what alterations are for. Happy shopping!

Go now. Order something that fits today and get it altered if need be. I think you'd be more upset if you only have a limited option of dresses to choose from due to time constraints.

Probably within the week would be a good time to start for sure

I'd probably go pretty soon. I'm getting married 10/10/20, ordered mine on 9/28/19, and it just came in last week. The designer I chose is known to have a fast turnaround but the salon said most take 6 months. You'll need a couple of months to get alterations lined out as well.

I agree with others! Go as soon as you can. You don't want to limit yourself on what you can and can't get-- and you'll still need alterations.
