Dress Shopping

Emily, on December 14, 2019 at 7:41 PM Posted in Planning 0 9

All I can currently think about it going to look for a dress. However, I told my family that I would wait until they can drive to my city in late February so they can help me look! I would go alone the first time to see what I like, but I feel guilty every time I think about it and how I want them to be there! Ahhh! Have you ever felt this way?

Nope lol. I would feel bad maybe buying but i guess i am in a different situation. Luckily I didn't buy anything until my bestie was with me but had i gone alone i would've waited to try on the dresses I liked again to wait for their approval. Nothing wrong with checking out.

Pinterest is your friend. Use this time to narrow your styles down. That way when they come you can use the time wisely to focus on your preferred silhouettes.

Go for it ! Don’t feel guilty ! Sometimes it’s easier once you know what you like/don’t before bringing other with you

I didn't at all. I didn't buy a dress without them, but I definitely shopped alone. It really helped me figure out what I liked and didn't before I was bombarded with other opinions.

Do it. It’ll give you a sense of what you like and don’t like for when you go with the family. My
Family all loved a dress I hated. It was alarming to me.

People will just be happy you included them.

Not even once. I didn’t want anyone else’s opinion. The folks that I know are pretty vocal and I didn’t want that to over shadow my wedding day vision. Sounds like you all are close though. That’s a great thing!

I went dress shopping with my MOH once and when I saw prices I was shocked. I ended up going online and finding dresses 50% cheaper than in the same store sometimes. I felt slightly bad that I didn’t go with my mom or sisters but then it would have taken extra long with other people’s opinions.

I totally was there. I got super excited after we were finally engaged, so I went ahead and looked by myself just to start getting ideas. I ended up finding a dress that I thought was the one, and I had a lot of guilt from not waiting for my mother. My stepdad ended up driving her up that weekend, we all went to the store, and I purchased my dress.....or the one that was my dress at the time.

Then I lost twenty pounds. I could've gone with my mother over Thanksgiving, but I was still in denial over how much my body was changing. I also thought everyone's reactions the first time meant that was my dress. But I finally realized I needed to give up my ballgown because it felt like I was settling to cover up my body....which I don't need to do anymore. So I went shopping today by myself and exchanged my gown.

So my advice is to take your mom for the actual purchase, but shopping by yourself is fun and freeing. It let's you focus on what you like without outside opinions. Plus it's just kind of fun!

I went alone before I went with everyone else and was so happy I did. Just don't tell them. I privately told my consultant at the second appointment that I'd already been shopping and liked/didn't like X Y and Z so we skipped trying on those types of dresses. It saved time and the headache of my family liking a dress in a fabric that I hate.
