Dress Shopping

Angie, on July 7, 2019 at 7:23 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
So today I started shopping for my dress. I tried on about 10 dresses and narrowed it down to 2. But there's another boutique I want to look at because they carry a different designer with a few dresses I wanted to try. What I'm wondering is how you knew which dress to choose? I didn't feel very emotional trying on dresses, but I don't necessarily think it means I didn't find the dress. I'm just distracted by the other designer's dresses and couldn't make a final decision yet. What helped you decide?

I didn’t get super emotional either, but all of the other dresses I was just like “this is nice, but no.” When I found my dress I just knew it felt right. No tears or dramatics, I could just see myself walking down the aisle in it.

My dress was the 10th dress I tried on, and last one at my first appointment. I knew I loved the dress and how I felt in it, but I 100% knew it was my dress after trying on a couple more dresses at my 2nd appointment and kept comparing them to that dress. So I went back to the first boutique and bought my dress! Good luck!

People kept telling me when you put THE dress on you'll know and I took it with a grain of salt. I went dress shopping 2 weeks ago and the dress I ended up choosing I only had half way on and I said I love this! It just felt right and everyone I was with got emotional and so did I. I had 2 other appointments that day and we decided to go to the next place and if I couldn't stop thinking about it come back. Well, nothing could compare and I canceled my last appointment and bought the dress! When they say you'll just know they are not lying.

I didn't have a "Say Yes to the Dress" moment either- but it did just feel right when I found my dress. I told myself that if I felt that way when I tried it on again with my mom then it was meant to be.

I'll preface this with: I am not the girl who ever had marriage as a goal in life and I do not consider myself "bridal." I didn't think I'd be in a real wedding gown.

I tried on 6 dresses and chose the last dress, which I had wanted to try on the most. The 1st dress was amazing and I still think if my dress hadn't existed, I'd be in that one - it was a kitty chen with blush underlay and ivory lace overlay fit and flare. It was gorgeous. I felt very pretty in it.

When I tried my dress on, I immediately lit up - like from inside. I can only explain it as a giddiness. I still feel it when I look at the dress while I wait for it to be made in my size (a size up from the sample).

When I put on my dress my first thought was "OMG yes! This is it" I also couldn't stop smiling. When I took it off to try on a few more, all I could think about was getting back into "my dress". It was exactly what I wanted to look like (besides obviously my hair and makeup) on my wedding day.
I went to 2 different shops, tried on 8 to 12 dresses each visit and had a total of 6 visits, just to give you an idea.

I went in not even sure what style I was really looking for so I was worried about not finding it. I loved my dress when I tried it on but wasn’t sure if it was “the dress”. It was the last one I put on at my first appointment. I went to David’s after and didn’t find anything I liked. The last boutique had a dress similar to the one I loved, but there were a few things I wasn’t sold on (the back and sleeves, which I loved on my first choice).
Everything I liked was being compared to the other dress so I went to try it on again and knew it was the one I wanted the second time around.

I did kind of the same as you. Except I had my first appt at the boutique I liked the most and knew if I found a dress there that I didn't really care to look at the other places. Anyway, I narrowed my search down to 2 dresses that I absolutely loved. I didn't get emotional but I knew I liked both of them. One dress was more "me" according to my bridal party and the other was closer to the silhouette I had been looking at. I believe having a really good stylist makes all the difference! My stylist could tell by looking at me which dress I really loved and felt better in. So listen to their advice and take it into consideration. My suggestion would be to go back, try the dresses on and have someone take pictures of you while you are looking at yourself in the mirror. Don't pose for the pictures. Then go back and look at your face, read your expressions and you'll be able to tell which dress is THE ONE!

I didnt want to take my dress off! I was literally twirling and dancing around the shop lol! My maid of honor was with me, and she said my face just lit up immediately after I put it on. I didnt cry or get super emotional, I just fell in love with the dress! Listen to your heart, you'll know it's the one when you find it!

I agree with Caytlyn. When I tried on my dress (which was probably the 15th+ one I tried on) it just felt right. I didn't get teary-eyed or anything, but I as soon as I looked up at the mirror I just saw myself in my little fantasy.

I will say too, my dress isn't 100% perfect in all aspects of things on my list but that was ok because it had the things that really mattered to me and I know that that "perfect dress" was something I'd never afford and I wasn't about to make the budget about it. This one was a diamond in the ruff for my money.

At that time I actually couldn't decide between two I liked and I didn't know what to do until my friend put it this way. She said what kind of vibes do you want (in this case..) sweet vibes or sexy ones? And When I thought about what kind of reaction I wanted out of my future husband and how I wanted to feel inside, the decision became stupid easy.

Anyway, it truly just clicks. I told the girls "don't let me leave this store with a dress today. I need time to think no matter what" (because I wanted to take the time to make a strong decision and not impulse buy out of excitement). Needless to say when I tried on the one I think I purchased it within 30-45 minutes of putting it on for a second time. Funny enough no one stopped me because they knew it was it too just from the confidence that came out of me. Body language told it all. Sorry I just wrote way more than I probably needed to make my point haha. xD

You only visited one store? It sounds like you need to visit 1-2 more. Perhaps you won’t cry (I didn’t), but you’ll at least have a “this is the one” feeling. 😊

I had actually saved the dress on the store's website, and kept going back to it. But I went to a pop up shop, so I didn't know if they'd have it.

A few dresses made me feel really amazing, but the way I knew it was THE dress, was when my friend started to cry, and she set off my other friends, and then me. And then it turned out it was the dress I had saved, just without the cap sleeves in the picture.

So, take someone you trust, and watch their reaction, too.

Try on more dresses if you didn’t get the tingles from it. I thought I loved a dress and I cried for it but my MOH could tell on my face that I was unsure. I went to another appointment that same day, tried on 7 more dresses, tried the one I cried for on again and didn’t get that same feeling. The next one I tried on was the one. I knew it because my heart was pounding fast, I wanted to rush out and show everyone. I didn’t want to take it off. When you know, you know. Smiley smile
