Do you have a date and venue? I would do these things first as the date (weather that time of year) and venue (formality) will likely influence the dress you get!

    When are you getting married?

I went dress shopping a month after getting engaged. My wedding date was 11 months from when I got my dress, so it gave plenty of time for the dress to be ordered and come in (took 5 months), then gives me enough time to get alterations done before my wedding this November.

If you’re March 2020 you should go now bc it could take six months to ship and then alterations

As PP have said that all depends on your wedding date. Once you have a date you can better decide when to go. I went 15 months out from my date because my dress took 12 months to come in. So once your date is decided you can go shopping once you hit the 12-15 month mark or less. However if you go any less than 10-12 months you might not be able to get certain dresses or have to pay rush fees.

Yeah if you're getting married in March, it's definitely not too early. I'm already starting to look at dresses and I need to buy very soon, I'm only one month after you!!

If you have a date and venue, theres no time like the present. If not, I'd recommend getting that squared away first as the venue can influence what you want in a dress.

I went dress shopping and got my dress exactly a week after I got engaged.

    HOWEVER.

    1. We knew we wanted to get married this summer, so I knew I had less than 9 months to find a dress.

    2. I had already done "window shopping."

    3. There was a pop-up sample sale for Kleinfeld's, so I went just to look, and got lucky.

    4. I'd been engaged before and bought a dress, once. So I already had been through this to a certain extent, and was very clear about what I wanted from the experience.

So... know you can go whenever.

But it'll be a lot easier if you have clear ideas about when your wedding is, and what it is you want out of the dress shopping experience.

I went dress shopping after we had booked our venue and secured our date for the same reason's as PP's above have stated. The time of year and location played a lot into my dress decision. We actually just had our one year site visit and it inspired me to get a reception dress as it was so hot and I don't want to be uncomfortable.

I looked online for a dress the night he proposed haha but I didn’t actually go look until after I had my venue and date picked out.
