Dress Shopping

Rachel, on December 29, 2021 at 10:11 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4
So I'm getting married October 2022, and we're having an outdoor wedding.... In Michigan. Very rarely is it not raining or snowing in October, so I don't want a white dress for my wedding, or I at least don't want the skirt and the train to be white, but my mom keeps fighting me about it saying that I need a white dress.

Am I dreaming too big with my vision of the dress, or is my mom just being pushy?

Also I have no idea who to take dress shopping with me. My younger sister is my maid of honor, so obviously she's coming, but I don't know if I should bring my mom, my grandma, my youngest sister, or my soon-to-be mother-in-law and sister-in-law.....

You don't need to have a white dress if you don't want one! Pick whatever color dress you like best. As far as who to bring dress shopping, bring only those whose opinions you value most. I suggest limiting it to somewhere between 1-3ish people. If you're not super close with your FMIL or FSIL, then I wouldn't invite them to dress shop. Also check with the dress shops that you plan to visit - they usually have a limit of how many people you can bring with you. Happy dress shopping!

Pick whatever dress feels right to you and makes you happy and confident. As far as who to bring and how many thats a personal decision although I would check with the dress shops as the pp suggested. Biggest thing I would say is to make sure that you bring people who will support you in whatever dress you pick even if it isnt the one that was their preference.

Sometimes moms just need time to let go of the wedding they’ve always been picturing in their mind since you were born. She’s probably just always envisioned you in a white dress. My mom did not understand and was upset when I told her I would not be wearing a veil - because I’m sure that’s how she always pictured it. Long way of saying, wear the dress that YOU want to wear, be clear with her that you have made your decision, and then just give her time to process it. She’ll come around with time. Smiley smile

Pick whatever dress makes you feel the most beautiful. It's all up to you, and no one else, so don't let people influence your decision. You don't need a white dress.
