How far in advance should I be looking at wedding dresses? Bridesmaid dresses?

I was told to start looking 1 year before the wedding for the wedding dress and pay for it/order 8 months prior then 2 months do a final fitting appointment.

When I have 6 months till my date, I'm ordering the rest of the dresses.

This is up to you, some people do it really early out of excitement and some wait. I got mine not that long after I got engaged. But keep in mind factors like if you want to lose weight or what your personal schedule is. It doesn't hurt shopping in general though or looking around so you know what you like Smiley smile

I bought my dress 8 months before the wedding and it took 3-4 months to come in. We have 4 months left and the girls will be buying their dresses this month

I picked bridesmaids dresses 14 months out, they ordered them anywhere from 3-10 months out (they all picked their own dress in a specific color, fabric, length so we never went shopping together). I went to two bridal salons 13 months out and 1 10 months out, I ordered 10 months out and it took 6 months to arrive.

I bought my dress one year out, but the salon I visited was having a great sale and I was absolutely in love with my dress. My bridesmaids started looking on Azazie 10-11 months out because they wanted to take advantage of the at home try on program. They ordered in January for my September wedding and got them in early February. Even though it's super early for us all to have our dresses, we have been glad to have extra time and money to budget for alterations before we have to make more payments (HUMA, etc.) closer to the wedding.

I just got my wedding dress and I'm getting married in October of next year. It all depends on what you want to do for sure.

If you're worried about having enough time you could contact one or two places you think you will want to shop and ask what they suggest Smiley smile

I am planning on looking for my dress and my bridesmaids dresses in August. It will be 1 year before my wedding day. You can start looking around just to get an idea of the style you want to wear for your wedding.

1 year is usually recommended. I think 1 1/2 years is fine but try to wait to buy around the year mark or you may have dress regret by buying too early.

This thread is so helpful! I had the same question! I have been looking at dresses but was too afraid it was too early to start shopping!

I started looking at wedding dresses about a year out and actually bought it 8 months in advance. The one I tried on is the one I purchased so I was able to take it home that day. It is recommended to purchase your dress about 8-10 months in advance in case it needs to be ordered as they can take months to come in.

It was also recommended the bridesmaids dresses be ordered about 4-6 months out so they have time to come in and get altered. I'm getting married in August and my girls ordered their dresses in February. One dress came in within a couple of weeks, another took about 6 weeks and the last one just came in last week.

You should order your dress 8-10 months before your wedding to ensure it arrives in time for you to get alterations. I chose my BM's about 2 months ago, so 6 months before my wedding. The company said the girls should have them ordered at least 3-4 months before the wedding.
