Dress shopping...what to wear??

Christine, on September 29, 2019 at 12:13 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I am starting my dress shopping next week. What do you typically wear when trying on wedding dresses?

I'd recommend a strapless bra and nude underwear. That's what I wore and it worked out well!

Some people go full-on shapewear, but I personally didn't think it was necessary. (That would be more for fitting appointments and such anyway, and depending on the silhouette of the dress you get, you might have to get a specific type if that's something you plan on wearing underneath.)

I was told not to wear makeup, but I did and it wasn't a problem -- I stepped into all of the dresses, so no makeup got on any fabric or anything.

Have fun! I almost wish I made more dress appointments, just because it was a good time, but I only needed one to find my dress.

I wore leggings and a t shirt lol something comfortable and easy to get in and out of oh and sandals. I also brought a strapless bra (you may or may not need it) and I wore any underwear I felt comfortable in. I didn’t think my undies would make a difference because I’m just trying it on and my undies aren’t bulky or anything lol. I brought socks too because their floors were cold!! I didn’t wear makeup and I don’t recommend it, there were quite a few dresses that had makeup on it and it would make me upset because it’s a little selfish and I have to wear a dress with your stuff on it lol even stepping into it sometimes you might try something or scratch your face and forget it’s long sleeve and now there’s foundation on the sleeve. But do what you feel is best. Some like to wear their trial makeup and hair to get a full look. But be comfortable and you’ll be fine.

Thank you! I will keep all of that in mind. I plan on making another appointment at a different bridal shop just to see what I can find.

    Thank you!

Got it, no make up. I don't want to leave stains on their dresses. I am very excited for my appointment Smiley laugh

Also to add to previous posts, make sure you wear something you are comfortable having a stranger see you in! I went to about six appointments and all but one of them made it mandatory for the store person to help me change into it. So don’t go wearing thongs lol. I even had one store where the store owner, a man, came over to help zip up and adjust the dress. Bring a hair tie as well so you can see your hair up and down.

I wore makeup cuz it’s hard for me to like a dress if I’m distracted by how undone I look. I never got makeup on a dress and I tried on about 50.

Also bring shoes that are about the height you you are going for on your wedding day.

    Have fun!

I definitely agree that a strapless bra and full coverage underwear is the way to go!

I wore a sundress (because it was summer and that’s my typical summer clothing). I also had a regular bra that the straps could detach and thong underwear. I didn’t know what type of dress I would want, but didn’t want to see panty lines if it was form fitting. I also wore makeup, but I don’t wear a lot and never wear any foundation or anything that would transfer into the dresses. I actually had never heard about not wearing it until this discussion. I don’t care about being undressed in front of people, but every place I went was very respectful and asked if it was ok to be in the room with me while I switched dresses.

I would wear a strapless nude bra & a nude seamless thong. I'd wear pasties too, since a lot of dresses can't accommodate bras!
