Dress shopping in different state?

Kerrie, on April 13, 2019 at 8:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10
Hello!

ill be living in North Carolina but my wedding will be in Tennessee.

Should I look for a dress in NC or TN? We have family in Tennessee so it wouldn’t be hard to visit for shopping and alterations.

Does anyone have experience with something like this?

I live in California but my family and MOH were in Texas. I bought my dress in Texas so I could have them all there. The bridal shop shipped me my dress when it came in and I did all alterations in the city where I live and got married in California.

    I did it!

I live in Texas, but my family is in Wisconsin and Minnesota. So during Christmas my FH insisted we go visit with my family. Over the holidays I visited a very nice bridal boutique with my mom and aunt and picked out my dress!

Remember they have to order it so you'll have extra shipping costs. Now I'm on the hunt for an alterations person down here in Texas. My coordinator is helping me, but I'm sure if I called up some bridal boutiques here they'd be able to steer me right too. Not fitting time just yet.
Oh, I also had to make sure I told the FH where the dress was so he wouldn't stumble on it. It was shipped in a super nice and not see through bag too so he can't see a thing.

Funny you should say that because I live in Northern California but am traveling to North Carolina (Wilmington) in August to look at Crystal Design wedding gowns with my best friend! I personally think you should look into both locations. It certainly won't hurt, right? And if you don't feel like going to different boutiques, would you ever consider shopping online for your dress?

I live in VT and will be getting married in VT. But I bought my dress in NYC. I loved going to the city to buy my dress! It’s been a bit of a haul for my alterations as I decided to have them do it due to the complexity of my dress. But it just gives me more excuses to go visit my family in NYC

I bought my dress in Nc before I moved to CO. My mom picked it up and shipped it to me to get altered and I’ll ship it back and have it steamed before the wedding.

I am in between 3-4 major cities (basically every major city in east Texas). So I chose David's bridal because there is one in all 3-4. So if something little goes wrong (forgot the veil, need to figure an accessory out, change my mind which city to alter it etc), I can fix it in any of the 3-4 cities at 8 different locations.

    It's complicated. But, it works.

Oh, you can go to David's bridal and send the dress to Tennessee and alter it in Tennessee. This way you don't have to transport it. You could also figure out the accessories in North Carolina and have more convenience and revisit a sample of it if you need to figure out shapewear, veils, crowns, petticoats etc.

If you’re in North Carolina, I would HIGHLY suggest Jillian’s Bridal Outlet in Hickory. I got my gorgeous $5K dress there for $699. Be buys out bridal stores that are closing, and sells all the dresses at discounted prices, no more than $699. We drove up from North Georgia to go, and it was INCREDIBLE!

with that being said, I feel like as long as you can take the time to travel and it doesn’t add an extraordinary amount of stress to you, buy your dress is whatever state you please. If you think it’ll be easier in TN, do it there! Or if you want to travel with your dress from NC to TN and back, that’s cool too! Just do what minimizes your stress.

Ohh that is awesome. Thanks for letting me know about that. I’ll check it out.

Yea the stress factor is the one I’ll need to figure out - but discounted beats travel for sure.

    thank you for that!

I live in NYC, although I did visit many bridal shops here at home including two trips to Kleinfeld. I ended up falling in love with a gown at an awesome bridal shop called A & Bé in Denver where our wedding will be. Ultimately I’ll have to have it shipped to me for alterations which isn’t ideal as I didn’t want to travel with it... but I wouldn’t change my wonderful dress shopping experience. I would highly recommend them. Now to find a seamstrsss that’s not a fortune in the tri-state!
