I recommend shopping around a year ahead of time - that leaves plenty of time for finding the dress, shipping, and alterations, though is close enough to your wedding to where you aren't as likely to change your mind. You could always start looking online now to get some ideas of styles that you like!

Most definitely! I got my dress in June & my wedding is this April. The boutique where I purchased my dress is one that once you purchase it, you leave with your dress! Gives me time to figure out my accessories- jewelry, veil (if you’re going to wear one), shoes & how I want to wear my hair. I took some inspiration photos & had some ideas on what I liked. Be opened minded when you eventually go. I ended up with a dress that I wasn’t even close to what I thought I wanted!

It's vest to start shopping 9 to 12 months prior to your wedding date.

3 things: weight, waiting, type of shopping. ... How stable is your weight? A weight change of as little as 15-20 pounds on a small person up to about 150) is enough to change a dress beyond where you can alter a dress down, because of positions of armholes and neck openings. And the more alterations time a seamstress works, the more it costs. And though most dresses can be taken in up to 2 sizes, many dresses can be let out a full size, some cannot.
More material has to come from somewhere. Do you want a $600 alterations bill, added to the price of the dress? It is a good time for preview shopping, to get an idea of the market, your appearance, and whether or not you need serious weight loss or gain. If you have wondered how you feel about yourself, some shopping now may give you motivation to change before actual pick a dress and order it time. ... So are you planning to shop now, but wait before ordering to 11 months or less, to decrease the time you must stay the same weight? About 1/3 to 1/2 of the dresses you see for sale now have been around a while, and will not available definitely 9 months from now, unless you pick a classic style, so though 2 makers have retired a dress design, , 2-4 others will have very similar things. But will you accept that disappointment if you find perfect, but cannot but it because you need to wait til sooner so your size at ordering is the same as it will be at wedding time. Many who find a dress really early, cannot resist buying it... and have to start over. weight changes, pregnancy, illness, toning up, really can change your body so an ordered dress that comes in at 2-3 months cannot ever be made to fit, or will have the wrong proportions for the design. So you will lose half the cost of the dress selling it, at least, and have to biy a new dress. ... Not shopping to buy today - If you are looking for a gown that is not the kind of thing you wear daily, you are clueless about some styles, and how they will accentuate your best and worst features. Often people first choose the wrong basic shape. Go by yourself or with someone who is good for fashion feedback, not sentimental, like mom. No groups. Plan a weekday, and tell them you will want to try on at least one type in each major style. Weekends, schedules often only permit short appointments, so if you can get a weekday, you can actually try on 0 dresses or so. A good sales person will tell you right off, this or this will look bad. Then set out, after measuring, Because there used to be standard dress sizes that ready to wear people have played with, taking the same size that was a 10 and now calling it an 8, or 6, or 4, it wedding dresses you need to go back to more standard sizing. So look up Maggie Sottero size chart, or that for a particular designer. Some designers play with numbers, by Sottero's chart is within a size of most charts, so, representative. You wear at 12, but sales person says, let me get you an 18, you won't die of shock. This kind of shopping is wonderful to do way in advance. After doing it once, you will insta tly say NO to many you would have thought looked good, but don't. And discovered several you never would have thought of. Who knew, body hugging dresses suited you? Or that you have looked at real mermaid styles that spread below the knee, when the same upper body but a trumpet skirt that flares below hip yo well above knee would be great, and mermaids added 8 inches to your hips? Some people who gravitate toward sleeveless find a small or medium sleep or strap up to a shoulder ( not drop sleeve) makes their figure look taller and slimmer, more hour glass from edge or shoulder and arm ( wide) in to waist, even a large one, and out to hips? Half the people in sleeveless would be more flattered by a little at least, and resist trying them. then spend hours of a seamstress's time trying to properly support their bosom, or make it look more significant than it's tiny self? Sleeves are the difference. Things like this, like dropped waist, basque, normal, raised, and no waist at all, you will learn. Then when you go back to looking online, and by price, you will have much more of an objective idea of what suits you. And while you are at it, try a couple of different shops. Most salons carry a few to a lot if designer lines, and some private label, similar dresses that are common styles, but the shop not the designer gets a lower price, and can compete with larger stores who can offer sales. Look in the website under retailers or our stores, and list out the stores in your area that carry them. Do several designers you like, then plan a trip. Some designers have details you like, maybe corset fastening, or use of beadwork with crystal, or ruching to follow curves, and if you tell or show sales people what you like, they will pull others, including private label, if you like.
Don't fall so in love you cannot resist til a year out. Then, 7-8 to 12 months out, buy after rechecking that maker's chart with sales. Do not fall for, you must buy today, or tgey may run out, pressure. 95%of dresses they will say that at 11 months, but at 7 months you walk in, yup, they are still selling it. Maybe for $300 less! Don't be pushed.

I am also a June 2022 bride! I plan to go Dress Shopping in May and June 2021, about 1 year out. Then I can get a feel for the weather, and gives enough time for the dress to come in and for alterations.

You might find it useful to first pin down your venue(s)/aesthetic, to guide your shopping, also.

I already have colors, invitations, and venue picked out- so I am pretty sure what type of dress. I’m probably going to end up with something different though, since that’s a common trend haha.
