Dress shopping alone experience?

Mandy, on January 28, 2017 at 1:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15

Has anyone gone dress shopping alone? I'd like to hear your experience!

I'm considering possibly visiting this bridal boutique alone (only because my parents and bridesmaids live over 1000 miles away). This bridal boutique has great selection and carry the designers I love (Essense of Australia, Stella York). I'm excited to try on my dream dresses but I'm also nervous about going alone. (plus ordering and shipping, or bringing dress on plane stress)

My previous dress shopping experience was with my mom and my maid of honor at my hometown, but I live in the middle of no where and there aren't any great bridal boutiques around and I haven't been able to find a dress I love.

I did and I found my dress. I made an appt to bring mom's and order my dress. It worked out just fine for all of us.

You could include them for alterations later on.

Make sure to have your phone charged and ask your consultant to help you take pics.

Yes! I found my dress when I went alone. The two previous trips with friends and family was full of distractions and everyone else's opinions. I didn't get to focus on what I wanted.

I usually prefer shopping on my own, so it wouldn't be weird for me. I did have my MOH with and then I went back with my sisters. I figured if I had too many people there...it would just be too confusing :o

I went alone! Well the third time I went and that when I found my dress. It makes you focus more without ppl shooting ideas and opinions out at ya. Also really makes you think about what you want. It's nice that you've already gone with your mom that way you have that experience too Smiley smile

I shopped alone first, knowing I'd be shopping with my mom and sister a month later. I would have happily bought a dress on my own if it weren't for the fact that I had that other trip planned. I loved shopping alone and would absolutely recommend it. It's so easy to get caught up in everyone else's vision of what you should wear and trying on dresses on my own really helped me figure out what I loved and wanted.

I went alone and loved it. I was able to buy what I liked and to not have to worry about the opinions of others.

I went alone and found my dress!! It was just fine. I bought a dress I knew my mother would have loved (she passed away a few years ago) and when I put it on I just knew it was "Me". The staff at the shop was very supportive.

I bought it off the rack due to a short time frame and there were no returns or exchanges, so then later I just showed it off to sisters and close friends.

My friend and I (both engaged recently!) Went together to look at dresses and try a few on just to see what we like so that we could each be focused on what exactly we were looking for when we went with a larger group. When she went back to dress shop with her family and other friends, she had one specific dress in mind, and when they got to the bridal shop (after going to 2 different ones) her mom went straight to THE dress. It was meant to be!

So, you could go alone to narrow your search and then go with family and friends later or you could even send your family and friends pictures if they can't make it to go with you. Best of luck!

Thank you everyone! It sounds like I should really give this a try and hopefully be able to focus on finding the perfect dress! Hopefully I wont feel too guilty about going alone......

Having gone shopping twice and both times with a group, I wish that I had gone by myself at least for one of them. You honestly don't think you'll be one to do it, but going with a group does influence your decision making. I felt that I wasn't fully able to take a step back and really look into the dresses with an editing eye due to the very excited emotions of my friends and family.

I went solo when I bought my dress. But, the salon was nice enough to let me text pics to my sister and mom while trying them on.

I ended up finding my dress when I was alone! I think I felt more comfortable and like I could completely pick what I felt most comfortable in, whereas when I went with bridesmaids/family I felt more likely to try and "people please". Even though I didn't really care for certain styles, when everyone else is gushing about how beautiful it is, it made me second guess things. So I'm all for the alone experience. Enjoy it Smiley smile

I generally shop for clothes by myself, I know what I like and what looks good on me, so I would probably have been fine shopping alone, at least to narrow down options! I think I would have wanted my mom there for the final decision, especially because I know it was meaningful to her to be there too.
